Jerome Heiberger walked back to camp to get another rear wheel, as hi s EuroCycle KTM had shed its rear sprocket. Ron Dillon reported no rear brakes but was sliding toward the front in the process. Douglas started lap' three with a two-and-a-half minute lead on Searle with Holley dose behind, but the tale was told as Roeseler pitted in fourth overall just four minutes behind. Segale was fifth with Zanone holding his own over Grossi and Silvestri. Now leading the Open Junior, Ron LaPointe had moved up quickly with Haaker first of the four-strokes and Dean Joyner moving quickly into the top 20 on the San Rafael Yamaha YZ2S0. Ed Marchini moved in front of Cullins with Paul Funaro just in front of MacDonald and Vanderpool. Mark Nason joined the forefront on his open KX along with 2SOcc Junior Todd Doll, Honda 's · Bruce McDougal and Gene's Autom o ti ve Suzuki rider Kenny McKenzie. Heiberger returned to camp, once again, on foot, having blown the center cases while Holley limped in having jumped over a cliff. . " I swear 1 was in the air for 30 seconds. Segale was still third but at least one check was unhappy about how he was blasting by without stopping. LaPointe and Marchini were tied together through the streets with Haaker chasing and Joyner on a rampage. Funaro and Jay Heying were just in front of Cullins with McDougal still close and MacKenzie hanging draft with Nason. Brian Pecore was happy in 18th on th e last lap as he tried to hold on to Eddie Edgyed's draft. It was a tough last lap as 49 minutes later, Roeseler got the checkers about two minutes up on Douglas. Douglas said, "My muffler came apart and 1 was having my troubles. 1 didn 't realize it was Larry coming, bui he tapped me on the shoulder wh en he went by and 1 couldn't do anything about it. I'm so happy to " do this and want to thank my wife for putting up with this, especially on Mother's Day." Haaker piloted his four-stroke in at fourth overall. • Unofficial Results 0 / A : 1.
