TI'indel', Pittman teal' up Pol'tland RR ,By Russ Cazier PORTLAND, OR, APR. 17 The Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association's season opener at Portland International Raceway turned out to be a big payday ' for expatriate-Aussie Craig Trinder and Oak Harbor, Washington's, joe Pittman, thanks to 'U.S. Suzuki's Nation' al Cup Series. Pittman was a good pre-race bet to win all three, Suzuki Money classes, and started out by running away with Open Production, with Keith Pinkstaff a distant second and Trinder even farther back in third. Trinder came back with a vengeance in 750cc Production. After shadowing Pittman for all 10 laps of the 750cc final , Trinder put a last lap pass on him and made it stick when it counted. Pittman's smallest Suzuki was obviously not working as well as Trinder's, and in 600cc Production, it was Gene Brown who leaned on Trinder the entire race. Trinder finally stretched his lead on the last two laps and won another chunk of Suzuki loot. . Best race of the day was 600cc Superbike, with four racers Brown, Devin Seferos, Terry Williams and Arnold Andrews - in a tight pack at the lead for th e entire race. The quick, foxy Brown made his move on the last turn of the last lap. When the other three riders tried to go inside a back marker, Brown went outside from three bikes back and took the checkered £lag inches in front of Se£eros. No Cam Racing's Gary Crenshaw got an unexpected cheap thrill in the four lap qualifier for 450cc Superbike. ' "I was bumped righ t on the start by a turkey; he hit me so hard it lifted the front end of th e bike right off the ground," Crenshaw said. " But everything felt all right as I went through the gears , so I ent ered turn one at racing speed. I. went for the front brake, and the brake lever was gone. Busted right off. Fortunately I was able to straighten up and go for th e run-off ramp and slow down with the rear brake. I thought I had it made, but th e ramp ends in a little dirt hill, and when I started to roll backwards I had no way to stop and fell over at about two miles an hour. Could have been a lot worse, I guess." - Crenshaw must not have been too ' rattled, because he installed a new brake lever and won the lO-lap final in 450cc Superbike going away. A cool 600 day kept anyone's tires from getting really sticky and Keith Pinkstaff's two-year old 1:12.5 lap record was safe by a couple of
