Kessler - ca pitalized on his third place start to ta ke the win in moto one after a hard fought battle with Kurt McMillen on a Honda. One of the best races of th e da y was th e fin al 500cc Pro rnoto. Kessler stalled hi s Kawasaki in turn o ne leavin g h im dea d last with th e lead ers long go ne. After restarting, the hometown favorite rode like a man possess ed, pi cking off riders in leaps and bounds. By the end of th e moto, Kessler had passed every rider for the win a nd the overall. In the highl y competitive 125cc Pro class T eam Green 's Brian Carro ll ha d h is hands full with Kawasaki rid \ Chris Co lema n and Mark Lack ov, ' LZ , as we ll a s H ondamounted Robert McCullough. In moto o ne Lac kowicz jumped to the early lead leaving a battle for second between McCullough and Col em an. Meanwhile, Carroll was fighting h is way through th e pa ck aft er a poor start. The fight for second was fierce with M cCullou~h and Coleman battli ng the enure race. Coleman would catch th e Honda of McCullough in th e turns only to be pulled on the straight sectio ns. H ard ch arging Carroll co nt in ued to pick off ' riders, sett ing hi s sigh ts on th e leaders. On th e white flag lap, Coleman tried every trick in the book to get by McCullough but th e Honda rider kept closin~ the door. T wo turns from th e finish Col em an made a last ditch effort o n th e sweeper before th e back straigh t j um p but McCullough held tough and took th e checkered a hea d of Col eman. Carroll' s im pressive rid e th rough the . pack netted him a fourth behind Lackowicz , McCullough and Col eman which wo u ld prove decisive for th e overa ll. In th e seco nd 125cc Pro mo to Carroll demonstrated the style and speed th at earned him th e New j ersey number o ne p la te for 1988. After grabbi ng th e hol esh o t he sim ply motored away fro m th e rest of the pack, fin ish in g 10 seconds ahead of second p lace. T he d uel for second was a carbon copy of the intense first moto fight o nly this time Kaw asak imou nted Cole man ba ttled wi th Suzuki rider Bob H ayes. Co leman was again wor king overti me in mot p two, th is tim e, however , hi s last la p pass stuc k, and he ended up with a 3-2 tally.
