Moreh ead 's ru n n in g with th e leaders was remarka ble because he was fighting a dragging rear brake. The brake had begun to m alfunction ea rly in th e fina l a nd by the end of .the race had become so hot th e di sc wa s badl y discolored. Wi th his first National victory in sight, Orr sa l u ted th e crowd with a wheelie exiting turn four on th e fin al lap. Bro w f i nished seco n d b y a n a rrow m a rg in o ver Moreh ead . Farris a nd Ingra m ro unded o ut the top five. Fast -qualifier Kirk finished l -lth in th e IS-rider field.
