Cherry wa s nowh ere to be seen when Brian Storment led J oe Warni ck , Ray Bellows a nd th e res t o f th e pack through turn o ne in th e fir st m oto, Cherry fi nally got goi ng and started p icking off riders, o ne by o ne. Afte r a co uple of lap s he h ad el bowed hi s way into secon d a nd was hounding Storme nt fo r th e lead. T h ey . co llided j us t past the big to we r j ump · a nd Storment we nt down. Cherry kept going for the victory. although Warnick did come u p to cha llen ge in the lat er stages of th e ra ce. Cherry d idn 't start much better in moto two. as Joe Warnick led J eff Murphy a nd CorneH Canter o u t .of th e gate. Warnick immediately o vershot th e first berm and Murphy took co nt ro l of the ra ce. Cherry was buried midpack b ut coming o n stro n g. After a cou ple of laps M u rp h y dropped it in the "S" turns and slid to seven th .
