Tea m Green / AXO rid er Dabney Bowen was off to a good start in th e first 85cc (12-15) moto unti l a sp ill in a tri cky right-hander left Matt Shue with a commanding lead o ver Bowen and David Cantrell. Bowen co uld n' t ca tch the sailing Shue and settled .for second followed by Cantrell with Chuck Shirley and Phillip Hay es making the top five. Moto two was all Bowen as he s tyled to the win over Squiggs Dickerson and Cantrell. Shue carded a DNF while Bowen landed the o ve ra ll a head of Cantrell and Dickerson. The most exciti ng mot o of th e da y was the first 125cc Amateur mo to as Jamie Hacking nail ed the hol esh o t over Lonnie Ta ylor a nd T racey Barnett. H acking was in co ntro l until a lapper broke hi s rh ythm and he fell to fourth. T aylor took th e lead with Stacey Barnett closin g, while Hackin g worked pas t Tracey Barn ett for third. The final lap saw Sta cey Barn ett force T aylor off his line for th e win. " I had th e in side line on a downhill left-hander but he took it away from me, It was a good move." said T a ylor between mo to s, Hacking fini sh ed third over Tracey Barnett and Tim La skis. (Ka w~ > Behrens best at Motosports MX By Don Hachmeister BYRON, IL , MAR. 20 ' Bob Behren s dominated A class action at Motosports Park with wins in both th e 125 and 250cc Expert divisions. In the opening l25cc Expert moto, Rusty Ott got the early lead but surrendered it to the Tuf Racing Kawasaki of Jim Veugeler by th e end of the first lap. Ott ran second to Veugeler throughout the rnoto until Behren s put o n a final charge to tak e over th e second spot. Junior Jackson a nd hi s facto ry-sponsored Suzuki tu rned o ut to be the rider to watch. Startin g near th e bad: of the pack, Jackson piloted hi s Suzuki to a fourth pl ace finish , just behind Ott's Yamaha. Behren s . took th e early lead in moto two a nd held off charges by J ackson a nd Veu geler until lap five whe n J ackson turned inside Behren s in a backwoods sweep er to tak e the lead . J ackson held on to take the win, Behrens held on for second and Veu gel er fini sh ed third. Behrens second p lace fini sh locked up the overa ll. Veugeler took the second spot and a 5-4 da y earned Jim Ra nda third overa ll. T he 250cc Experts gated for th e first moto with Ott, Behrens and Veu geler read y to do battle again. Ott took th e early lead but could not hold off a ch a rg i n g Behrens. While Behren s led , Veu geler charged from back in th e pack. Behren s took th e checkered flag first, followed by Ott th en Veu geler. Veu geler had th e early lead in rnoto two, bu t everythi ng seemed to be go ng Behren s way as he motored past Veu gele to take th e second .rno to victo ry a nd hi s second overa ll of the da y. Veu gel er ca p tured a no the r second overall, a nd Ott overcame a poor start in moto number two to fin ish th ird and score th ird overall. Tim Bares rac ked u p two firsts to sweep th e Open cl ass a nd Ron Downen held off Dave Ben sen and Tom McSh an e to tak e th e Sen ior Men s hon ors. Ron Georg e (Kaw ); Keezer traps Coyote Enduro victory ' By John Dixon TENINO, WA, MAR. 20 Wayne Keezer roosted his Kawasaki KX125 to a perfect zero poin t loss to cap ture the overall AA class win at th e Ro ad Runn er' s Coyote Enduro, edging o u t hi s Kawasaki teammate John Neilsen by just two seconds a t the tie breaker check. High winds and dr y weather made th e usuall y greasy cla y much easier to ride th an expected, allowing several of the faster riders to zero the course. But Keezer was the only rider to cross the tie-bri eaker chec kpoint fJags a t th e perfect 30-second mark. A ra the r long 18 mph sectio n caugh t many riders late when it turned into a race th rough th e tight wooden section of th e course after an easy stre tch of logging road. But th e dr y cond itio n mad e timekeeping skills as im portant as speed for most of th e co urse. The C cla ss a nd Sportsmen s rode th e sa me course as th e A and B com pe titors.
