Miraghi in herite d th e lead and held it to th e fin ish over Joh nson a nd H onda rider Mark Howard. In th e second mo to Mirag h i j umped into the lead and was followed by H oward , Kawasa ki ri der Da nny Jones and J ohnso n. T he race stay ed in th a t order un til the th ird lap whe n Mira gh i fell off the pace and began to dro p back. Howard wok th e lead , Miragh i was able to stay in second and th ird was being handled by J ohnson. Fourth pl ace was controlled by Kawasak i rider J ones , while fifth pl ace was in the han ds of Townse nd. As the wh ite flag appeared Howard was able to hold o n to th e lead a nd took the win , but J ohnson had mad e th e move in to second a nd J ones was also able to leap ahea d of Miragh i a nd stay in th e number three spot. T he top three riders fin ished in th a t order. Kawasaki-mounted Alan Loredo nail ed th e Iirst-moto hol esh o t in th e Vet Novice class and was trailed by Suzuk i-mou nted T erry Huffer for the beginn in g of the first lap until th e lo ng downhill where Huffer simp ly out-bra ked Lor edo and took 'the lead . Loredo gave chase but just cou ldn' t keep th e pace a nd .settled into second. Third pl ace chores were being handled by Honda-m ounted Steve Wi ttingham as his posit ion went uncontested. The top three positions stayed th e same for . the entire moto. The second mot a saw Huffer o nce aga in take the lead a nd pull away from Yamaha rider Mark Bergqvist a nd Loredo . No one was able to reduce Huffer's lead, and he easily took th e win. Coun ty Raceway. T he Pros elec ted to run as one class, rega rdl ess of bike size. T elford go t a good first mo w start a nd ente red turn one and lap o ne with th e lead a nd Kenny Zahrt hot o n hi s tail. Telford led all the way, despite cha llenges by Zahrt in th e fir st half of th e rno to and Pau l Vlach in th e second half. Vlach made a major .try for the lead o n th e last la p but T elford held firm and took th e win by a length. . Zahrt go t th e holeshot in mo ta two and Telford was a very close second off the line. They cont in ued th at way for five laps wh en Zah rt dropped o ut, momentarily slowing T elford. Eri ck Hilton, who had finished th ird in rnoto one, sho t by fo r th e lead. T elford realized th at all he had to do was stay where he was, keep ing Vlach behind him, and he had the overall win. H e was carefu l to do j ust that a n d finished m oto two in second, earn ing overa ll fir st pl ace cash . T elford leads th e Pro class in po ints by suc h a large margin th at he ma y well be on his way to th e number one pl ace in hi s rookie year. T ony Quall s took both holesh ots and ro mped wire-to-wire for two easy wins in the 250cc Interm ediate cla ss. David Rosen had started both motos right beh ind Qualls but ga ve way to Mike Fowler, who took second in both mOlOS for second overa ll. . Russell rolls at Road Atlanta RR By Bob Applegate BRASELTON , G A, MAR. 26-27 J onesboro , Geor gia 's Scott Russell was the star of the weekend's AMA/ CCS roa d race meet a t Ro ad Atlanta. Russell team ed up with New Englander Dave Sad owski and the pair rode Solrnax Ra cing's Suzuki to victory in a four-hour en d ura nce race on Saturday , and o n Sunday Russell won t!Je Unlimited, H eavyweight and MIddl eweight Supersport sprint races. For hi s efforts in th e Suzuki Cu p Series sprint races, Russell pocketed .$2100. In the end urance race, Sol max jumped o ut to an early lead and diced with U.S. End ura nce Champions Team Lo ckhart. Lockhart sp ent the r~ce testing tires and eq uipment with nder s Dal e Quarterly a n d Doug Bra uneck taking turns on th e Keith Perry-tuned Suzuki. Solmax held th e lead until th ey made a len gthy p it stop for fuel lengt hy because th ey refu eled witho u t a quick-fill system . Florida's Never Ready Racing took over up front a nd d ism issed their intentions of usin g th e race as a practice session. NeverRead y held th e lead for quite a while but .
