Neal won th e first m ot o , th en followed Ryan Hughes home in th e seco n d ro u nd to claim first overa ll h onors. Wh en th e first moto hit the track H onda -m ounted T on y McGrath grabbed the lead a nd was closely tr ail ed b y Neal a n d Kaw a saki mounted Ray Crumb. By th e en d o f th e second lap th ese three riders were sh owing a litt le more speed th a n th e o the rs and had progressed ahead of th e rest of th e field. Neal quickly went to work and was in for the lead. As the third lap exp ired th e top three rid ers were unchanged, a nd th e onl y ch a nge th a t came o n the next lap ca me wh en McGrath made a bid for th e number two spot. Go in g through th e rock ers McGrath moved alo ngside Crumb and got by, bu t he on ly he ld seco nd for a short time before Cru mb repassed at the beginn ing of th e fif th lap . Without any further ch a nge th e race ca me to an en d wi th Neal ta king the win ahead o f Crumb and McGrath. When th e ga te fell for round two Crumb fou nd hi s way to th e front of the pack and was hounded by Yamaha-mounted Hughes, who slid right past Crumb to tak e th e lead. This made th e lOp five Hughes, Crumb, Neal McGrath a n d H onda mounted Dal e Rayzor. As th e rnoto co ntin ued Neal was th e o n ly rider wh o didn 't seem co ntent with hi s position a n d began to in crease hi s pa ce. H e was soon past Crumb a n d into seco nd, while .McG ra th went down and remounted in eig h th. Neal co u ldn' t ca tch Hughes by th e en d o f th e m o to a nd had to settle for second,' which was good for the overall win. Crumb was seco nd overall with a 25 sco re, a nd McGra th pi cked up a positio n la te in the race and finished th ird overall aft er 3-7 rides.
