Tracey Warrington captured th e Defending National Cross Country Champion Ed Lojak was running up front before getting slowed down by a water crossing. Michels was able to make it to the last la p checkpoint before the overa ll leaders and thus put an 'extra lap o n th e rest of the class. West Virginia Husqvarna rider Don Bohn crossed th e line in seco n d wit h Maryl and 's Donald Smith, KTM -mounted Barry Crone, and H usky pilot Spanky Zatezalo rounding out th e top five. T hr ee hours and 17 minu tes after leaving th e line, Brown made it past th e sixth lap checkered flag to claim the overall win.
