Pa ul k threw away second place on the final lap, handing it to Sadows ki who narrow ly defeated Dick. This event, whi ch wa s rained o ut o n Mar ch 4 and reschedu led for today, marked th e last race of Cycle Week ' SS. It wa s s ho rte ne d from th e originally sched uled 10 laps and ended in near-darkness a t 6:15 P.M. Team H am mer CP R/Michelinl Fox- sponsored H arth go t th e hol esho t from his mid-front row grid posi ti on , leadin g Po len , R ick y Orlando, Dick and J ames into turn o ne. A grou p of seven riders pa ssed th e start/finis h togeth er to co mp lete lap one, with H arth holding the sligh test advantage. By th e co mp letio n of lap two , H arth had fallen all the way back to fifth. Pol en led Dick, J a mes and Pau lk across the stripe to begin lap three. James, from Ba ton Ro ul?e, Lou isia na , held second, by a slim margin over Dick at the en tra nce to turn six, but by the time th ey reached the chica ne at th e o ther end of the speed way, J am es had fall en to fourth behind Dick and Pa ul k. The three rid ers crossed the start/ fini sh line three abreast, with Dick holding second into turn one and James pa ssing Pa ul k for third to start lap ,fou r. James got by Dick at th e ch ica ne to take second, but was drafted and pass ed by Pau lk on-the east ba nking. New H amp sh ire resident Sadowski, who'd crashed in practice on Frida y, also passed Dick, who fell to fifth . , Dick , from Van couver , British Co lumbia, enjoyed racing in the Supersport class. "The mach ines are more evenly match ed than th e Superbikes, so it's a rea l battle," he sai d. H e ran a Vance &: Hines exha ust system and a Dynoj et kit o n his Suzuki. J am es passed Pau lk a nd Dick passe d Sado wski in the infield on lap five, and th ey held th ose pos it io ns until th e end of th e lap.
