In th e four-lap hea t race Larry P iekos led every la p on a Yamaha. P iekos is sp onsored by Cycle Craft Yamaha. Stout ran in the runner-up spot th e entire race. Ri ck Rozinski made a last lap pass to fin ish third. He was on a Yam aha. Stout was in fifth pl ace after th e first lap in the six lap final. H e slowly wor ked hi s way up, taking over fir st a fte r th e fourth lap. Rozinski had th e lead most o f th e race, but he had to set tle for seco nd af ter Stout's pass. Cagiva- mou nted Crai g Faust a lso worked his way u p fro m a poor start to finish third. Honda-rn ounted Dan Peterson led every lap he raced in the 250cc class. H e eas ily won both the hea t race and final. Cycle Craft-sponso red Charlotte Mosetick spe n t both races in seco nd p lace on a Ya maha. Coughlin Cycle Center's Je ff Wehrli ran th e hea t race in third p lace. In th e fin al he developed prob le ms a nd was unable to fin ish . This opened the door for J ohn Volk to cla im third p lace on a Kawasaki. Engle's Kawasaki Inc. -sponsored Tom Fosler took th e seco nd hea t race in the 200cc class, leading every lap. Ri ck Holder mad e a last lap pa ss o ver Cra ig Faust to secure seco nd pl ace. The first 200cc heat race went to Kawasaki rider Tim Drever. He was a lso o u t in front o n 'every lap. Bultaco- mounted Todd Wh ite too k the runner-up honors. T he re were three different lead ers in th e final. Fosl er led th e first, fifth and the last lap to tak e th e overa ll class win. Faust led on lap four unti l he was bumped down to seco nd place. H e wa s able to hold o nto th at po sition until th e checkers. T he race lead er o n la ps two a nd three, Dreyer , went from first to third and ended his da y th ere. Durin g th e Senior class heat race, there were no pa sses made by the to p four.
