World Champion Wayne Gardner took on this Royal Australian Air Force FA-18 Hornet fighter in a drag rac e at Williamtown RAAF Base in Austra lia re ce nt ly. Mounted on a stock Honda VFR750, Gardner was no match for the jet. After being flagged off by Gardner's fiancee, Donna Forbes, the twin General Electric je t engines powered the Hornet to an easy 10.47 ru n, downing Gardner's m is-sh ifting 12.0 second run . The Hornet's pilot, Flight-Lieutenant Barry Kelly , t oo k Gardner up fo r over an hour in the supersonic fighter after the drag race and the Honda factory rid e r. even got a hold of the controls for a short while . Gardner and Kelly met at a roa d race last year. Klotz Special Formula Products has announced that the Klotz truck (full of racing products) will be at Daytona Inte rnational Speedway throughout Cycle Week. Dr. J oh n Wittner, designer and tuner of Do ug Brauneck 's 1987 Pro Twins Championship Moto G u zzi , has announced that Dr. J oh n 's Team Moto Guzzi wi ll unveil an ' experimental factory prototype street motor at Daytona. The Daytona 1000R USA Moto Guzzi represents the first joint development project between the factory and consulting engineer Wittner. The Day to na 1000R USA V-twin features four valves per cylinder, and a belt-driven single overhead cam. The '88 racing season evalua tio n by Brauneck and Wittner will determine th e suitabil i ty of this design for production bikes. Guests at the 1988 California OffRoad Veh icle Assoc iation (C O RVA) Convention will include Julia Justus. representing U.S . Senator Pete Wilson, California Senator H. L.
