Finch made severa l a ttem p ts to go into first bu t Scheffer held off his charges to take an excit ing and close win . Scott Eggleton ob served Scheffer fro m a fifth place heat finish , and found her line very successfu l in the fin al even t. Eggleton trai led Scheffer for two la p s, bu t unl ik e Finch , discovered a way around to take th e lead and th e checkered flag.. It wou ld give me more time on a road racer." Yoshimura Suzuki has 'ent ered two bikes in the Daytona .round of the Endurance Cha lle nge. One is for Kev in Schwantz and J apanese ri der Yuk iya Ohshima and the other is for Doug Polen and Scott Gray. Last year the Yoshimura squad entered several endurance races t hat were held prio r to the Nationals, using the races primarily for testing. It is a practice that Roger Edmondson , director of t he AMAICCS, is opposed to ' but can do nothing about at this time. " We have to take the entries at face va lue: ' he sa id . " W e can't ' q u est io n the motives. Endurance teams are running a three-hour pace, and the teams that are practicing go out and blow them away fo r five laps; th is is unfortunate." In the GTO class , th ird overall Kayo Racing were credi ted wi th o ne lap too many and should have finished fourth behind T eam T arga. In GTU, a sim ilar situa tio n resulted in T eam - No Drugs being cred ited with th e win wh en they should have fin ished seco n d behind R oswell H onda . Because the two teams did n't file official p rotests (though Roswell H onda told a Cycle News rep orter tha t th ey did, Ed mo ndson says that they just question ed th e resu lts), th e offici al results will n ot change. " T his is no t th e old AMA." says Edm ondson . " We' re not infallible. The resu lts will hold , but we want to own up to the facts. We think th at th e teams deserve to be recognized." I J, The Idaho Vintage M .C., Inc. will host its 12th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Show at Caldwell, Idaho, March 19-20. Coming on the heels of last week 's item rega rd in g the, sp li t between T eam Ob sol ete's Rob Iannucci and J eff Elghanayan, comes word from Elg hanayan, who is kn own in racing circles as Marco Pol o, th at the sp lit wasn ' t a n amica ble o ne. El ghanayan, wh o was not avai lable for co m m e n t w he n we rece ived an nou ncement of th e sp li t from Ian nucci las t week , says he h as severed all rela tio ns hi ps wi th Iannucci, his former lawyer and racing partner. Elghanayan .also said that Iannucci is presently a defendant in N ew Yo rk la wsu i ts concern i ng owners hip righ ts in Team Ob sol ete. Elghanayan also reported that he now expects to be increasing his racing activities and is also expanding into racing car ventures and will make fur th er ' a nnouncem ents o n those matters shortl y. Team Obsolete's Iannucci confirms that the situation between he and Elghanayan has "deteriorated." Iannucci says that on February 19 Elghanayan sought a cou rt order preve nting Dave Roper and Iannucci from racing at Daytona, but he was not successful. Iannucci also said that Elghanayan has started legal maneuvers seeking the right to use the Team Obsolete name and other team assets. " Nat urally, we are doing all that we can to oppose these outrageous claims," said Ian nucci. " I started Team Obsolet e in 1976 and have put most of my lif e' s ene rgy int o it since t hen. Countless other people have contributed greatly in many ways. Over the years we have had many riders, and many sponsors. only one of wh ic h was Jeff, although he was the wealth iest. It was a mutually rewarding relationship. Certainly the opportunity to ride , the Triple Knocker and other fabulous machines was not based only on Jeff's ri ding ability. " T here will be a' delay in th e availab ility of the React Racing Radio system, current ly being tested by . T eam Kawasak i's Je ff Ward and Ron Lechien, du e to a pat ent in fringement o n th e crystals used in th e receiver.
