The new portion of th e track is 10 feet wider th an th e old, with the new pavement measu ring 40 feet in width while th e old tarmac is 30-feet wid e. The new turn two features a deeper th an normal apex of 60 feet, which sho u ld allow for mor e th an one lin e to be used through th e corne r, according to Roberts. " Moselle outlined plans for bu s tours for foreign riders and their guests; tours that will show off the local flavor of the Monterey Peninsula. He said the tours would be held Wednesday morning, prompting R oberts to intervene with, "And there'll be one for Gardner (Wayne Gardner, Australia 's defending 500cc World Champion) on Sunday morning, right?" The press conference also showed off a 1987 Yamaha YZR500 (the one ridden by Marlboro Yamaha rider Tadahiko Taira in last year's G Ps), a Yamaha Radian , and a 1988 Yamaha TZ250 which will be ridden by Team Nordica Roberts' John Kocinskithis year. Moselle thanked ' Yamaha, Honda , Marlboro and Shoei, the major sponsors of th e , event. Roberts summed up the anticipation for th e event by sayin g, "I've coun ted 16 works bikes for 1988 (44 total 500cc entries are expected fo r the GP . . . Ed itor). People her e have seen the se bikes before, but o nly two of them, maybe three, a t a tim e.
