T he top three in th e 250cc heat race finish ed in th e order that they started. Desort took top honors, foll owed by J ohn Binker a nd Do n Waldbuesser. Desort jumped o ut in front d uring th e fin al and was th e first rider to reach th e checkere d flag. inke r spe n t most of th e fina l in th ird p lace, but moved up a no tch o n lap six for second overall. H e took co nt ro l of the hea t race after the start a nd cru ised home th e winner. Second p lace rider T om Norris stayed in that position unti l the chec kers. T he th ird rider across th e fini sh lin e was Tom Lawsha, riding a 125. ' Hinterlon g led every la p in th e fina l, ta king th e wi n. Bren t Dannen berg spe nt th e race chas ing Hinterlong a nd stayed a head of the battle for th ird. Norris led most of the rac e for third over Lawsha, but it was Law sha that led o n the last la p for th ird. . T ony Hinterl ong led every lap in the O pen class heat race. Behind him cam e J eff Pi cha , who rod e in th e runner-up slot all during th e race. J eff Ca rner ga ined third place o n lap fou r. Once again it was T ony H interlo ng at th e head of th e pack in the main. H e led th e fir st seven laps, but it was Pich a who led on th e la p tha t counted. Aaron Stoudt ran h is race in th ird place. . In the Senior class bo th the winner and runner-u p never cha nged p laces in either the hea t or the final. Mik e Dugan led every la p to co llect the win. whil e Tom's Cycl e R epai r sponsored T om J acob s was always in th e second spot. Childress dropped off the pace near the end of the heat but held o n to pl ace second. Jones domina ted th e second l25cc Pro hea t a nd was chased home by Steven H erm an. Ma rk Mu sseelman a nd David Hand ba ttled for third with H and go ing by in th e wh oop section. H and closed the gap to Herman , bu t H erm an held on to second. An dy Michner led th e pack th ro ugh tum one in th e third 125cc Pro heat , R ich H al stead worked his way by Mic h ner to ta ke th e lead and th e win. Mi ke Bias a nd Davy Coombs rounded o u t the top three. J o nes was hot off th e ga te in the 125cc P ro main event to dominate the race. H and gassed it everywhere 'o n th e co urse, bu t ended up in second. Michner wo n heat one in th e 250cc Pro class wit h Halstead moving by Cliff Walker to finish second. Walker filed by for third. H and had a n ea rly lead in the second 250cc Pro heat but cou ld n't hold off J ones. J ones went by H and to pull o ut a co mforta ble margin a nd tak e th e win. Hand gra bbed second. wh i le R od ne y Ph illips fini sh ed third. A determi ned Hand cha rged off the ga te in the 250cc Pro main to lead th e p ack with J ones cl ose beh ind. H alstead remain ed ca lm and motor ed to third with Walker fin ishing fourth. On Sunday. H alstead won the first 125cc P ro hea t with J oe Maurer tak in g heat two .
