Bill Amick, AMA vice president o f professi onal co m pe ti ti on , today confirmed th at th e su pe rcross race has been canceled. .. " It has been con firme d to us in writing. SXI a nd Special Teams, partners in th e San Diego Supercross, h av e withdrawn from the event, " said Ami ck. When asked if th e San Diego Super Crown replacement race would be AMA-sanctioned, Amick said, " No san ction has been issued for San Diego sta di u m. Negotiations are underway for a sanction in San Diego, but as time goes o n I think it's less and less likely." l700dwin blamed the cancelation f the supercross race o n the AMA , hargi ng that AMA officials would o t confirm SXI's sanction for the vent. " " There was no sanction issu ed ," confirmed Am ick. "Conditio ns for issuance (of an 'AMA sanction fo r San Diego) had no t been complied with ," Amick said. " There were several co nditio ns, and I probably shouldn't get into the details because it 's not appropriate (due to pending litiga tion ). But we didn 't cancel th e San Diego Supercross, a nd someone had to." SXI recently filed suit against th e AMA , ch a r g i n g , " a nt ic i p a tory breach o f contract." SXI alleged th e AMA a ttem p ted to bypass the Insport Agreement by considering a sanctio n for Mi ck e y Thompson ' s Super Crown ra ce held January 30 in Anaheim, Ca lifornia. The Ins port Agreement, a contract betw een th e AMA , SX I and Pa ce/SRO , gives Goodwin th e right to promote all AM A-sanctioned su pe rcros s ra ces held in sou the rn California. Despite SXI's a llega tion , th e AMA did not issu e a sanction to MTEG for the Anaheim race. The replacement ra ce in San Diego, round two in MTEG 's three(possibly four- ) rac e Coors Su per Crown of Stadium Motocross Seri es, will fea ture factory riders R ick J oh ns on , J eff Ward, Micky Dymond , Ron Lechien a nd ot hers, according to MTEG.
