Espinosa, riding Randy Miller 's Honda, powered to victory in th e main event. H e was chased home by former California State TT Champ ion, Dav e Bostrom, who won th at ti tle back in 1968. The Alvernaz boys were all smi les after claimin g th ird a nd fourth spots, but this time it was Elmiro who fin ish ed in front, Aguilar took fifth on th e Ma cedo Construction special. Scott Creager took th e fin al trophy spot, finishing ahead o f Bill G onzales, Bob Cunnington and ATKm ounted jim O 'Conner. Former mini whiz kid Ant Mitche ll took the checkers in th e 250cc main event wi th so me fan cy da shing around a tenth-mile oval th at was gettin g pretty rough. Second went to Yamaha rider Albert Biscaglio and Honda-m ounted jimmy H iguera fini shed third. Bill Ripley rode th e vintage Hap jones/Shoei/Service Specialist Bultaco to fifth , finishing behind fourth place. Paul Polhemus, who had to produce some video foo tage to prove he made the main event. Another sh arp vintage bike in th e feature race wa s Rod Lake's Honda 250, which Frank Nye worked on all ni ght to get ready for the heat race. Lake won h is heat a nd made the main but finished a disappointing 10th after taking a soil sample. j ak e Zemk e came into tonight's a ction with two Nati onal rmrn ch ampionships under hi s belt, but th e soon -to-be 12-year-old di al ed himself o u t of th e main after a fin e heat race performance.
