Las Vegas MX Daily demolishes SaiemAX By D ick Goodwin By Clay Light SALEM, O R, J AN. 16 Team Green's Jeff Daily demolished the competition in th e 125cc Intermediate cl ass tonight with two flawless rides during arenacross action at Salem's Jackman- Long Expo Arena. Daily carved through early traffic in both motos, putting six seconds on the competition in each outing. In th e fi rst rnoto, Mike West grabbed the holeshot, but after moving through traffic at a ' rapid clip, Dail y overtook West to claim th e win. Honda mounted West a nd Kyle Brooks blurred to the head o r th e pack in the seco nd mo to, but Brooks yielded to both Wes t and Daily. Once past West , Dail y motored away in search .o r th e ch eckered £lag. or co urse , Daily ro und th e flag first, good for a I-I demoli tio n of th e class. West took seco nd after a pair or runner-up finishes wh ile Mast's 34 postings were enough to log .th ird overall -ahead or Brooks' 5-3 and J ason Ni ch ols' 3-4. Kevin Yeager took h is secon d overall wi n in a three-race span by topping the 250cc Junior class. Yeager posted an impressi ve win in the first contest, beating Ron Stevenson, aboard a Honda thumper, and th ir d p la ce finisher R ic k Roberts. The secon d co ntest went the way or Keith DiBrino, an ATV pro; Shane Do naca took second edging Yeager, who took the overall win in th e class via consistency. Yeager's 13 pos tings were good Ior top brass while DiBri n o (4-1), Donaca (5-2), Rob erts (3-4) a nd Yamaha-mounted Todd Sieg (7-5) ro unded out the to p five overall. T wenty-seven l25cc Beg in n ers were on hand, again forcing th e class to be split into th ree groups for preliminaries. KX jockey Ri ch ard Postma to ta lly de voured th e com pe ti tio n , which came from H onda mounted Rob ert Bro ss a n d Ya m a h a rider Marlin H ansen . T he duo co u ldn ' t put th e stops to P ostm a , who went on to ta ke th e wi n . Bro ss took second with Hansen , Rom a n ' Ross a nd Jamie Borman card in g th e top five rides. Eric Rogers took th e overall win in th e l25 cc Junior class via some luck on his side an d d isma l luck Ior th e com peti tio n. Rogers took firth in th e first moto behind Chris Clark, Troy Fuller, Da n Kinion and Jeff P ayne, but won th e seco nd o utin g a fter early leader Kinion's demise. H a l£way th ro u gh the rac e, Steele sudderi ly was hed out and went down. Arnold moved up quickly to challe nge Pocino and stuck to him for th e rest of the ra ce. Pocino h eld o n for th e win over Arnold , with Saxto n th ird . Saxton apparently lik ed th e view up from a nd stead ily increased his lead o ver th e Pocino! Arnold du el for second. At the checkered flag was Saxton with a big win and the overall victory in the Intermed ia te class. Pocin o wa s a solid seco nd, with Clint J o nes nailing down third. Arnold captured th e overa ll victory in th e Pro class. O ne of th e newest classes in the Las Vegas Motocross Club is th e Super Vets djvision for racers 25years-o ld and older. T od d Ku tcher, Do ug Taft an d Fi tch emerged from th e start in g line madness in rac e one to lead for the first few laps. When Taft had p roblem s it was left to Ku tch er and Fi tch to battle for th e wi n. The two battled for the rest o r the race an d a t th e finish line Kutch er edged Fitch for th e wi n , with Barr y Hill a n d J ack Down ey in third a nd fourth. Kutcher s ta bbed the h ol esh o t agai n in moto two bu t was immediat ely passed by Taft. Fitch a lso moved in q u ick ly for a pi ece o r the first- p lace right. Fit ch sh ad owed the two leaders for a co u p le o r la ps, the n blasted past th em both a t once in a wild scram ble on the " Desert Freewa y" . Once in th e lead , Fitch kicked hi s Yam aha into overdrive. Kut ch er m ad e a rush a t him la te in th e ra ce, but h is effo rt fell short as Fitch took the win a n d th e o verall vict ory.
