Barr's Comp. -b acked YZI25 o u t front near the midway point in each of the three main events a nd fought off lat e cha rges from hi s rivals all weekend long. First it was Steve Crowe, the n Da vid Hand, a nd fina lly Mark Crozier challenging the leader, but each were event ua lly forced to settl e into th e second position a t th e flag. hi th e Saturday afternoon opener a t the Augu sta Civi c Center it was th e G ear/P J l /Dunl o p-ba ck ed Crowe grabbing th e hol eshot with New J ersey Suzuki p ilo t Robert H ayes, Acerbis/ Sh oei/WVU rider Davey Coombs, H and, and Pen nsy lvania H onda rid er J eff G lass foll ow in g. Th rough the halfway point Crow e cont in ued to set a fast pace o ut front as Jones closed in . The Pennsylvania stadium special ist had moved into second with some impressive moves through the whoops sectio n and adjoining corner a nd was now breathing do wn th e early lead er's neck . Four laps from th e end of th e 15 lap rid e J ones out gunned Crowe down th e front jump strai ght to occu py first pl ace. As Kawasaki 's Brian Carroll pi cked up ground from th e number three spot Cow e kept th e throttle on and took a few modest shots at the lead before finall y settling for second. Behind Carroll cam e H a yes, H a n d , Gl ass , and O'Neal/Discotech-backed Mark Pillon. When the riders left the line for the Saturday. even ing main event it was DG Y/ Acerbis/ Bu b's Cycle rider Brian Stanley lead in g the way with Crozier and Cro we filling in the firs t th ree. Jones again sat in midpack, and like cloc kwork began slic ing his way through traffic o nce the early hip traffic set tled down. Sta nley'S lead would last until just after the halfway mark, whe n a lapped rider would send him wide ill a left-ba nder and allow J o nes to shoot the difference on the inside.
