J on es won th e 125 and 250cc Expert classes on both Sa tur day a nd Su nday of the two-da y even t. After win ni ng Saturday's secon d 125cc Expert qual ifier Dan iel Blackma n grabbed the early lead in th e featu re. John Mock sta rted off second fo llowed by Steve Cro we, Steve Herman, Britt Mill er and J ones, who had won th e first qualifier. J on es was o n the gas and had the crowd on its feet as he was the o n ly rider doubling the last set of double-jumps. By th e time th e smo ke and dust clear ed it was J on es movin g up to take the chec kers firs t with Blackman . Mock , H erman. Crowe and Brian Carroll in tow . . . Yam aha-mounted Rod Phillips took the first 250cc Expen qual ifier and then holeshot th e feature in front of second qual ifier winner J ones, Brian Years, Kevin Lon g. Carroll and Crowe. J on es then ca me back to take the feature, his fou rth of the weekend. T he 85cc (7-11) feature on Saturday had Tea m G reen rider Carter G urnee a nd Ben Trask battl in g wheel-to-w hee l for seven la ps unti l Trask cras hed o n the last lap. Gurnee took the win a nd J osh Bamman and New t Swartz go t by T rask to finish secon d and th ird. T rask made up fo r hi s cras h by edging Gurnee in Su nday 's fin al. Swartz fini shed third o nce again . Bart Lucas did battle with J im. Slum doubles Illinois Ice Race Season Opener By Han nibal MARSEILLES, n, JAN. 10 Al Blum was th e only double winner at th e Ottawa Ice Racers-hosted even t at the P rairie Lake Lodge in Marseilles. His wins came in the 200cc class and the Super Senior class. Blum too k over the lead on lap four aft er com in g from a third place start to win th e 200cc class five-lap' heat race. And y Hinterl on g led until Blum bumped him to seco n d. Hinterlong led seven of the eigh tlap fin al. Blum came from a third pl ace start, took over second on the fou rth la p an d moved int o first on th e last lap for the win. Norris spent th e firs t half of th e race in second pl ace and the last half in third. Blum's second win came in the Super Senior class. Only two riders were abl e to fini sh both races. Blum took the win over Bill Ri chards. The O pen class was sp lit into two heats. Brad Holder won th e first heat with a fourth lap pass o n Hinterlong. Ch ar lotte Mosetick dropped Hinterlong one more notch with a last lap pa ss in to second. Kevin Kwaterski led all five laps in th e second Open heat race. Dave Li ssy spent all but th e first lap in seco nd with J eff Carner in third. Kwat erski gra bbed th e holesh ot in th e main and never looked back as he led all eig ht laps to collect the win. Hinterlong stayed in seco nd pl ace the ent ire race. Mosetick had a battle for third at mid race, but she was abl e to hold off her co mpe titors to earn third pl ace.
