The meet will be a Southeast Region "crossover." . The AFM road race meet originally scheduled for January 23-24 at California's Riverside International Raceway has been rescheduled and will take place January 16-17. Lee passed away in Bullhead City, Arizona, wh ere he and his wife had moved several years ago. Staab Racing of Bakersfield. California, has signed Alex Jorgensen and will back the Camel Pro Series veteran in AMA Grand National Championship Series mile and half mile races . Jorgensen will conduct his own IT, short track and 600cc National Dirt Track Series program. According to Robert Staab, "Staab Racing is currently talking with Bryan Vii ; lelia to mount a similar program but this will not be completed before January 23 or after the San Francisco 600cc Series races." Southern California off-road racers will have a new place to compete when a 350-acre facility at Butterfield Country, located about five miles east of Temecula, California. opens February 28 with a SRA Grand Prix event. According to Walt Carter, whose firm manages the land for a private owner, the area has been in private use for some time and already has some trails. and a motocross track will be built by • February 1 . Cooperative Agreement and Trails Committee will meet at 7 p.m.• January 21, in the Best Western lake Tahoe Inn, 4110 Highway 50, South Lake Tahoe. California. to discuss OHV use in the Tahoe. The fina l 10-year management pl a n for the Wayne Nati onal Forest in southeastern Ohio boosts off-road vehicle tra ils from the ' 150 miles recommended in the draft p la n to a fina l trail to tal of 250 miles. The OHV sectio n of th e pl an allows trails o n a ppro ximately 20 percent of the forest; new tra ils will be constructed wi thin the next 10 years and be built , by user groups. The Forest Service received 1508 comments from the pub lic on the draft plan, which were used to evaluate changes in the p lan 's ORV section. The California Off-Highway , Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission will hold a special meeting February 17 in Sacramento. California. to address the issues of off-highway motorcycle noise. mufflers and spark arresters. · At , • the special meeting, the commission will address three issues. First, the commission will discuss ways to make OHVs quieter. and would welcome comments on the subject from vehicle and aftermarket manufacturers. Second, the panel will address the issue of "closed-course-only" off-road motorcycles being used on public lands 'w it ho ut spark arresters, approved mufflers or green stickers (OHV registration certificates). Third. the commission will discuss ways owners may bring their motorcycles into compliance with state law by adding legal equipment. made by original equipment manufacturers or aftermarket companies. The Pro-Desert Coalition (PDC) has available a 28 minute videotape. called The Desert lockout A Question of Freedom. featuring interviews with desert users opposing U.S. Senator Alan Cranston's Desert Protection Act (57) . California State Senator H.L. Richardson. who organized the PDC earlier this year to defeat 57. narrates the video with the help of cowboy legend Roy Rogers. The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) co-sponsored the tape and hopes it will playa major role in swaying public opinion regarding Cranston's controversial legislation.
