Former AMA End ur o National Ch ampion Dick Bur leson pi loted a big-bo re Husky four-stroke and cap tured the Senior class win at 16th overall (87 poin ts). Second Senior went to Malcolm Smith who finished 27th overa ll on a KTM 350. " I had a pr ett y good day going," sai d Burl eson, "then I had a sprocket bolt come loose in th e last section, costin!? me maybe six minutes. The bolt didn 't come all the way out; it came out far enough , so wh en the rear wheel cam e around, it hit the brak e arm and put on th e brake big t im e. I a bo u t crashed. Then I co uld n' t rotate th e wh eel backwards to get it out, 'ca use it was pushing th e brake o n. I had to fool with it for awhile to get it out." "T hen there was that bottleneck at the begi nnin g," said Burl eson . " I got into some rocks and one of th em knocked my cha in off, so I was there for a coup le of minutes. I guess I'm bu mmed because I lost those points in th e last sectio n which ended my chances I had of doing decent, but, heck, it was a lot of fun." Su zuki RM250-mounted Ch arl es Ha lcomb settled for seventh in class a t 17th overa ll with a gO-point sco re. " I did pr ett y goo d all da y with th e excep tion of tha t one bottleneck in the morning," said Halcomb. " I was carr ying a ga llon of gas on my fanny pa ck, and the fanny pack broke. I had to makeshift a fan ny pack, so I lost some time there. Then I carried that time for a co up le of checks, until I go t to a reset." Recentl y crow ned AMA Enduro National Enduro Champion Kevin Hines started the event but la ter dropped out of contention when he, too, ran out of gas during the first loop.
