Varnes won his first event in th e I25cc cla ss and Boutwell took th e win in the 360cc class for his first win in a very lon g time. Varnes grabbed th e holesho t on a Sponsell er Honda from G eorgi e Pri ce. Billy Bromley and Dave Duhaine as th e 125s exited th e second turn. With Varnes on th e inside, Price tri ed to lead on him as th ey en tered th e third turn and fell for the first o f three tim es. Varnes and Bromley pulled several lengths in front of the rest of th e field and ran close most of th e ra ce. As th ey entered th e first turn on the final la p , Bromley slipped under for the lead, but went in to fast and slid slightly high. Varnes bac ked off just enough 10 let h im cleanly dr ift out, the n slipped through th e space crea ted by Bro m ley and h e took the lead for good as they entered the third turn. Boutwell led Clarence Bull, Char- . lie Majeski and Joe White at the start of th e 360cc final. About halfway through the ra ce Maj eski slipped by Bull co m ing off th e second turn a n d started to close up on Boutwell. During th e last half of the race the two veterans ran close and as the y entered the third turn Majeski tried to pu ll a " T im o n iu m Bum p-N Run ," b u t fell doing so , giving Boutw ell th e win. Majeski remou nt ed just after Bu ll passed him for second. Mike Spo nseller and Kevin Varnes q u ickly pulled away from the rest of the 80cc class. Abo ut two-thirds of the wa y through th e race Varnes nudged Sponsell er in the first turn and sent him to the floor. Once he got underway Sponseller was in seco nd , half a lap behi nd Varnes. But the race wasn't over yet when Var nes fell as he exi ted the second turn with two laps left. Sponselle r passed him for the lead before he could remount and took the win. ' Rodn ey Farris grabbe d the lead as the 250cc Pro s came out of th e seco n d turn, but he got tapped by another rider in the th ird turn. Sendelbach sails to EAFB MX win By Terry Rezek EDW ARDS AFB, CA , NOV. 29 Jim Sendelbach rode hi s first race as a pro ' to da y at the C k C z'Dese r] Wheels MX at Edwards Air Force Base and took th e 500cc Pro win. Sendelbach got the holeshot ahead of John Greenway, also in his first pro race , in mota one and led until lap six when Greenway clawed his way to the lead and held it for th e mota win. In mota two Sedel bach left nothing 10 chance as he 'went from gate to flag in the lead to tak e th e win first p la ce money. Greenway finish ed second. Mik e Kiedrowski was in ch es ahead of th e o the r 250cc Pros in malO on e and remained there for th e win. Jeff . Maberv was clos e throughout th e moto but n eeded a mistake that never ca me . Mabery got the holeshot in mota two but Kiedrowski stormed past in the fifth turn a nd led th e rest o f th e way for anoth er win . and first overall. Mabery finished second overall. Kiedrowski and Mabery were back in th e 125cc Pro event but Mik e Pascarella grabbed th e lead off the line and added to it every lap as he flashed to the moto win. Mabery was close behind at the start but faded a b it as the ra ce wore on. letting Kiedrowski by on lap seven. Kiedrowski turned u p the gas but had to settle second as Pasca rella was long gone. P ascarella repeated his start in mota two and h is lead lasted to lap three when he went down in a turn.
