Majeski claims title at Timonium Indoor ST By Len Breech TIMONIUM, MD, NO V. 29 With one race left in th e 1987 Ind oor ' Short Track Series a t T imonium, Charl ie Majeski cli nc hed the 360cc class titl e with a n easy win o n atrack that was far from easy. An indoor race no rmall y isn 't affected by th e o utside conditio ns, but abo u t three inches of ra in ca used the co ncre te sur face to swea t, ma king any place ~u t the very narrow groove slick as Ice. Kevin Varnes started the 80cc clas s off by grabbing the lead from Roy Mi ller , Paul So uthard a nd Mike Sponseller. Whi le Sponseller worked hi s way into second by lap 10, Varnes man ag ed to stay on bo th wh eels on his wa y to a half -lap margin. With the win , Varnes va ulted from fifth to firs t in th e class point standings. Wh en the gree n light went off to sta rt th e 250cc cla ss, Mike Mester led Ri chard Reeves, Larry Sweeten and Dan Reichert, After a few laps Reeves slip ped to fourth as th e front runners freight . trained their wa y over th e next 10 la ps. With two laps left Sweeten slip ped under Mester for th e lead as they entered the third turn, but he carrie d too m uch speed into the turn and fell. Mester then drifted a little high , lett ing Reichert take the lead a nd event ua l wi n. Maj eski qui ckl y jumped into a large lead over Ha rol d Bosserman, Rob Smi th a nd Mark Burkh older. Sm ith nudged his way in to second after a few laps. bu t Majeski slightly b.um ped a lapped rider, u psett ing his Iine m three a nd com ing out of four he go t into th e icy-slick marbles and Smith Closed up th e gap. As he rega ined hi s compos ure going into the fir st turn. Maj eski didn 't know Smi th had p u lled up to his rear tire a nd he leaned into the turn , alm ost send ing Sm ith over th e bars. 50: 1. NOV. 22 Chris Brown was th e overa ll wi nner in the 85cc (7-11) class at round II of th e Gold Cup Series a t Croom Raceway. Br rw n too k the early lead and ran £lawlessly th roug hou t both mot os to take home th e win and keep th e overall poi nts lead in th e series in h is class. Marcus Pedero grabbed the ho lesho t in moto o ne of the 250cc B class with John Kitsch rig h t on h is bac k tire. Kitsch reeled in the lead er by th e end of la p one a nd ass umed fir st to th e end of th e moto . Pedero fin ished in the second spot with Gen e Naumac thi rd. In moto two it was Kitsch off the lin e first a nd he went unch all enged in the moto. Pedero was second off th e line and cou ldn' t ca tch Kitsch. Naurnac didn 't fair as well thi s moto and was back in th e eig ht h sp ot. Kitsch took th e win with Pedero second a nd Mike J o nes third. Pedro took th e holesh ot in th e 125cc B class first mo to with Sybert second, Danny Zull o th ird and Hank Mo ree fo urth. Wes Keenum a nd severa I ot her rid ers tangled o n the start a nd started well bac k in th e pack. Moree made hi s move on Zu ll o a nd pu lled int o th e thi rd pos it ion one lap before the rno to fini sh . Pedero went o n to win the moto with Sybert seco nd, Moree third , Zullo fo urth a nd Naumac fifth. Grayson Goodman took the ho leshot a t the start of moto two wi th Keen um second and Svbert third. Pedero was hung u p in the ga te and started well back in the pa ck. Goodman contin ued to lead th ro ugh lap three while Kitsch mov ed up from fifth to third a nd dropped ybert down a spot. Kitsch was ch allenging for the lead by the end of la p four a nd took th e lead from G oodman. Keen um held o n to third with Eric McLea r moving into the fourt h po si tion before the mo to 's en d. Kitsch took th e mo to win a nd the o verall for the day with a 6-) score.
