E.) 10th Anniver sary Celebration Races held in th e Tucson Communit y Center. A series o f 16, four-rider , four-lap heat races sco red by points were held and a t the completion of these heats the top thr ee riders in points were seeded directlv to the front row of the mai n. All starting positions were decided bv po int to ta ls, n o t by the chance of draw. T h e ne xt six riders in points went to the Last Cha nce Qualifier wh ere th e to p th ree rid ers ea rned a position in th e seco nd ro w of th e main. After an eventfu l n ight of heat rac i ng in Frida y' s Bob H et ri ck Memorial , th e three top p ointscorin g riders wer e Church , Bruce Nelson a nd Kenny Pi ep er. An exce lle n t rid e b y British League racer Randy Green ea rned him th e LCQ victory and a seco n d row pol e position in th e ma in . Three o the r riders backed up th eir class cha m : pions hi ps wi th a win; Kevin Varnes in th e 80cc class, Larry Sweeten in th e 250cc class a nd Cha rlie Majeski , who had clinched th e 360cc title last week. took his fifth win in th e six race serres, The closest points race was th e 250cc Pro class as Majeski was trying to put an end to Farris' five-year reign as class ch am p. Majeski held o n ly a half p oint marg in a n d whoever finished in front of th e other would tak e the title. But Crumling was hot on th e Russ Ro yston tuned H onda , a nd he gra bbed the lead from Farri s, Mike Scott a n d Majeski . With a 13 point difference between first a nd last in th e final, anything was possible. Steve grabbed th e lead from Mark Heiser, Mike Varnes and Brett Fri edel , with Price' close to th e back. After a lap Price sta rte d a ch arge to th e front, passing or stu ffing hi s wa y into second by lap 10. Dave Duhaine stayed behind Price and als o moved up through th e field. Price tri ed to stu ff Bromley as the y entered th e first turn on the last lap, a nd both riders fell , giving th e lead and th e win to Duhaine.
