T he 600cc Superstreet class; however, wasn 't red-flagged a nd was won by Tom Aquino after "~alt Ni tto was disqua lified af ter refusing to hav e his engin e torn down after a protest, Poi nt lead er Earl Roloff was to . have p ut in his first ride on a Honda CBR600 H urricane; but was unable to lin e u p o n the starting grid beca use of mecha ni ca l problems . AI Garza, wh o -was running second in th e point standi ngs o n his Yamaha, also ha d problems with hi s bi ke and started the race without a warm-up lap. . bd The in i tia l lead was gra b e quickl y by Ni tto, foIl owed by Aquino's H onda an d Kawasaki-mounted Calvin Rayborn III , who had started from the thi rd row . Rayborn , howev er , was out of th e ra ce wi th mechanical problem s before the end of lap o ne as Ni tto and Aquino p uIled away fro m th e pack: , Aq uino stuck close to Nino s rear wheel and by th e middle of the race the pair had a lead of over 13 seconds o n the ba ttle for th ird which consisted of Garza, Curt Kimb le, Alex Wh ite George Roche, Rodney Sherman , Jeff WeIls, Jim Runya n and .J eff Brinda. Dur ing the second half of .the race, Ni tto was a ble to establis h a n d maintain a two -second lead over Aq uino. Roch e, Garza, .Kimble ~nd White too k over the race for tlurd. At the end of th e race it was Nitto in fro nt with Aquino fairl y close behind. Kimble headed the gr ou p . going for th ird and was Iollowed across the line by Roche, Wh ile a nd Garza.
