S V U V Q Dave Schultz was the' number one qualifier in the Pro Stock c lass but was eliminated early on; Schultz is the new IDBA ProStock Champion . Kawasaki-mounted Neal Lane ' (above) captured the runner-up spot in the Pro Comp division . The victory went to Kawasaki rider Jim Cooper. .DBA MTC World Finals start . Despi te a lack of com petition, Q uesenberry clocked in wit h a 7.37/ 181.81 and a reac tion time of .853 - it was one of h is best performa nces of the year. The skies got darker and darker Sunday afternoon as th e Pros pulled into the staging lan es for th e sem ifin als. IDBA offic ials managed to get off th e Pro Stock and Pro Camp races, but just as the Funny Bikes p ulled in to the 'staging area rain began to fall. After two attempts to dry th e track, officia ls decided to call it q uits and try again the next da y. Monday morning offere d dark skies and stro ng winds, but no rain. Kizer a nd T im mon s faced off against each other in the.first semi final, but the contest was over almos t before it started . Timmo ns was too quick at the light, drawing red, which allowed Kizer to ma ke an easy pass and take an easy win . T he T exan finished wi th a 7.606/180. Baker was .063 q uic ker off th e 'line when he faced off against Quesenberr y in the second semifin al , and went on to capture a clean win. Baker took th e victory with a 7.238/190.67, whi le Quesen berr y finis hed with a 7.583/175.43. The final was set only Kizer and Baker were left. .Baker went into th e final as the underd og. Kizer had qualified fastest, had four 1987 wins under hi s belt and th e IDBA Nation al point lead . Texan Kizer got off to a good start Sat urday by turning in a 7.132second, 184.42-mp h pass to set fast time i.!1-q ualifying. Second went to . South Carolina's Bobb y Baker wh o 'p osted ' a 7.142/190.27 , and . Bill Timmo ns made hi s qualifying run cou nt by claiming third (his hi ghest qualifying run of the season) with 7.472/181.45. Rusty " T he Snak e" Quesenberry took th e fourth qualifying slot with a 7.55111 80. ETs increased and terminal speeds dr opped for the four riders wh o filled out th e top eight. Suzuki-mounted Steve Tracy was fifth in qualifying with a 7.772/132.35. T .J. Hofmeister turned in a 7.773/181.81' to capture sixth, and Keith Lynn took the seventh spot with a 7.797/151.77 pass aboard his Bob Deckard Kawasaki. Funny Bike rookie Chris Iovine rounded out the field in eighth place with a 7.922/148.76 run. Kizer claim ed victory wi th a very smooth 7.372/ 180.32. Baker went home th e runner -up wi th a 9.97/ 87.63. Kizer went hom e with all th e marbles - the win , the number-one plate and a quarter-mile record. In other Pro action, Vance & Hines' Terry Vance topped th e Pro Stock class and Jim Cooper claimed victory in the Pro Cornp division .
