AdveTtismg AssisuJflt Graphics end Production Errant chain I'm writing in regard to the coverage of the AMA ational Championship Cro s Coumry ries round at Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, that appeared in your November 25 issue. The repon states thar 1 had problem toward the end of the race due to my chain falling off. I would greaLiy appreciate it if you could prim the fact that my chain problems were the resulL of faulLy rear wheel bearings. Normally I would not bother with such minor details but I think rhe repon makes my sponsor (Tsubaki) look bad. I have tWO National Championships this year on Tsubaki chain and I feel responsible for correcting the misleading anicle. If space allows, I would also like LO thank my other sponsors: Greenrose Spons Center - The Honda Store, SuperTrapp, Bridgestone, Al Ba~er's XRs Only, and Bell Helmets. "The fuel line broke," said Romero. I repeated what he had just said, adding a question mark. "That's right," said Romero. "The fuel line broke when the piston and rod went through it." ... Editor, California dreamin' I'm a former District 37 flat tracker who just moved back LO southern California after being out of state for the past six years. To my disappoimmem there doesn't seem to be any sponsman competition happerling, or even any places to practice any more. Am I wrong? If there is anywhere left where a flat tracker can ride I'd appreciate knowing about it BARRY BIALAC Los AlamiLOs, CA So would we, Barry . .. Editor. Just the facts. ma'am Thank you, Ms. Aure, for preseming the end results of the women's amateur race at Kernville. Your facts are absolutely correct about my name not being crossed off at the staTl of, the second moLO, but as you recall, the protest was made after the first moLO, in which case the standings were accurate but differem (that's why you initiated a protest). If winning was the sole purpose of racing, then I should have ridden the second moLO to settle any and all dif£erences in opinion (whether it be first place, last or somewhere in between). I resem being accused of cheating by any man or woman! Hopefully, winning is not the only significant thing we as panici pams feel when racing. Words like sports· manship and comraderie come imo mind. Any racer has the right to protest given results bur the idea is LO question, verify and close the subject quickly, not to draw it out to extents. The easy alternative to your 'situation would have been just to ride and win the second moto thus insuring first place points. No protest, no hassle - JUSt head-tohead racil!g. My statement that motorcycle racing is a man's spon is supponed by the fact that it is predominantly done by men (100 men to one woman). This in no way detracts from the status or stature of women in the racing world. Cycle News does no mudslinging - Cycle News prints opinions, yours and mine - whether we agree or not. I'm thankful we have a place LO express them. LINDA SMART Fresno, CA The Last Edition Now that BMW has announced the return of the RIOORS and R100RT models, I would like to share the thoughts of fellow "LaSt Edition" owners. Please call or write. DAVE WILSON 7135 Ardmore Houston, TX 71054 7131749-8268 Champ 'says thanks As everyone involved in racing knows, no one can win a National Champio,!ship without the support of many people to help make that opportunity possible. I wanted to take advantage of this forum to publicly note and accuralely list all of my sponsors and friends who helped make this past season the great success that it was. Thanks to Tom Heyser and his outstanding staff at Heyser Cycle Center of Laurel, Maryland; Lock· hart Consumer Products; Jack Smith of Sport Cycle Products; Phil Flack Ractng Services; Lou's'Leathers; my father Carl Bigoney, JT.; Dick Sears for his welding skill; Richard Chambers for being Richard Chambers; and very special thanks to Bill Himmelsbach of Himmelsbach Racing for his encouragement, guidance, and impeccable technical assistance. I would also like to thank all of my friends for helping to keep me going in the right direction - you know who you are. And last but possibly most, my best friend and helper, my wife Margaret Hartka for being everything, aJl the time, when I need it most Thank you all for a great 1987, and I look forward LO an even better year in 1988. CLiff BIGONEY Catonsville, MD Bigoney is the 1987 WERA Formula 2 National Champion . .. Editor. My dog is deafl I have just returned from an AMA District 37 competition meeting. The events that took place have prompted the immediate release of my thoughts. I figured the readers of Cycle News are probably the only ones who can understand the way I feel ... besides, my dog is deaf! Riding off·road motorcycles is a hell of a lot of fun and always should be. We, a motorcyclists first and competition rider second, should I would like LO take this opportunity to express my sincerest thanks to all the people who helpe
