In the fir st moto it wa s H o ndam ounted Todd H ewi tt who got th e holeshot a nd proceeded to lead the beginners the entire moto, H e was onl y topped by Norman Winter , th e only Ju nior rid er who was a llowed 10 ride with -t he beginners and was inform ed he wou ld troph y if h e . co uld win overal l. H is positions did not interf er wit h the posit ions of th e riders i n the Begi n ner class.
