Wh en the dust cleared Graves had overtaken Olsen for a climatic win. Olsen and Graves have had brutal battles th e last several outings a t Albanv and Washougal and toda y was nluch th e same~ In hoth Pro . moto s, it ' beca m e a sh o wd o w n between two of Oregon 's fastest I25cc Pros. The fir st co n tes t saw Ol sen, Grav es, Don Bisceglia a n d Rob Annen battl in g for positi ons in th e Comb in ed P ro cl a ss. Ol sen a n d Graves pulled aw ay fro~ ~50c<; rid ers Biscegl ia a nd Annen , riding side- byside th e entire 30 m inute mot o. Also co m b ined with the Pros were th e 250cc Intermediat es, led b y T racev Bethel. The banle'Ior first in th e c1~ss was so fierce that it clos ed the defi cit on th e war waging for first in th e 250cc Pro portion between Biscegli a and Annen. Bethel a nd Honda-mounted Aaron Boehmer , lik e Ol sen a nd Craves, took th e en tire mot o 10 decid e th e outcome. In th e end, Olsen had yeilded \0 a pesk y Craves, good for th e I25cc Pro win. Bisceglia prevailed over Annen , good for top 250cc Pro while Beth el held off Boehmer's ch arges to grab a win in th e 250cc Intermedi at e portion. The second mot o was th e best ra ce of th e day. Olsen again put his ATAK/O 'N ea IlDMC' KX into th e lead but this time Graves wa s buried mid:pack and had to bailie with Bisceglia in order to go aft er Olsen. By th e tim e Graves h ad n abbed Biscegli a. Olsen was long go ne a nd had built up a 17 seco nd lead. But Craves made up th e di stance, nabbing Olsen on th e fin al lap, good for a I-I overall WIl1 . Ol sen was second with Bisceglia third a fter 33 rid es. In th e 250cc Intermediate class, Bethel came out on top with I-I performan ce~ over Bo~hmer's 2-2 and th e 3-3 rid es from j im Sawtell. Colangelo tops Woodland MX opener By Derryl Anderson WOODLAND , WA. ocr. 24 Kawasaki-mounted Shawn Colangelo rode two flawless rnotos 10 ca p tu re first overall in .the 250cc Junior class for th e opening motocross at Woodland Motocross Park. In m oto o ne Col angelo grabbed th e holeshot a head of Jason Robison, Kri s O vall , Erik Munson , Mike Fresch and the o thers. For five laps Ken Fuller was th e only rider 10 improve hi s position. Lap six saw Fresch move from fifth to seco n d a nd Fuller move up one more spot as we ll. Meanwhil e Colangel o was lo oking good up Iront. At ' t h e chec kered flag th e orde r went: Colangelo' Fr esch , O vall , Mu son a n d Robison. In mot o two Fresch took th e initial lead foll ow ed by 0\<111 , Col angelo , Robison j ohn Griffin and th e o the rs. T he sta rt was wild as nine riders rounded the fir st turn an d headed for th e woods. By lap two Colangelo had taken th e lead and Fresch dropped to fourth . On lap five Robison moved into second a nd th e positions were set for the re~ainder of the race. At th e flag 1\ was Colangelo Robison , Fresch, Griffin, Ovall , F~lIer, Mu son and Rick H erbst, In th e Old Timer Amateur class Wayne Kent, Jeff Younce and Jim Newman went 1-2-3 in both rnotos 10 claim overall honors. In th e l25c c Begginner class 22 rid ers jammed the starting gate. At th e en d of the straigh taway someone got sideways and a gigantic pile-up occured. After ch ecking several riders RIDG EFI ELD. In th e firs t h eat e ig h t riders jammed th e sta rt in g line. Carroll grabbed th e holeshot followed by Burres, Ron Mehner , Jim Krist , Jerry Halvorson, Leroy Thompson and Doug Phelps. Within two l~ps Burres was all over Carroll looking for an opening. Going down the backstr etch Burres pulled up inside of Carroll and made the pass stick as they entered turn three. Carroll th en slide out as Burres left the rest of th e pa ck a straightaway behind. Kinnish's 750 Triumphs were a super treat for th e small indoor tra ck. Carroll, on th e other Triumph, wa s finall y up an d going. In th e back H alvorson a nd Krist ball led back and forth with H alvorson finall y gellin g th e nod. Meanwhil e Burres wa s looking excellent out front, and at th e checkered flag it was Burres over Mehner , H alvorson and Krist, In th e fin al h eat it took three restarts 10 get th e a n xious Carroll and Burres off th e line clea n ly. Once again Carroll got th e ea rly lead ahea d of H alv orson. Burres, Krist and th e ot he rs. Bu rres wa sted no tim e in blowing by Halvorson and heading for Carroll. After severa l laps Krist lo st it in the lo os e stu ff. With riders still o n th e track referee Mik e Waggoner waved th e red flag and stopped the rac e. Everyo~e lined up o n the line and as the light turned green Burres roared into the lead. Carroll pulled even with Burres as th e two battled ba ck and forth lap after lap until Carroll slid out, Burres rode smoothly right 10 the checkered with Halvorson and Mehner about 30 yards behind.
