Moore ;s the master at Monterey ST By Mike Vancil MONTEREY, CA, OCT. 17 The experts were out in force at the second round of the H i-P oint Series promoted by R &D Ente rprises at the Monterey Cou nty Fairgrounds and Dan ny Moore turned out to be the Iorce to be reckoned with' as he won the main. The competitors ran a divided class for the heat races but came together for one final. By far the most spectacular heat race win was in the second heat when P.J . Sanchez came from mid pack to blast by everyone in front of him. Fin ishing second to Sanchez was Craig Johnson. The first heat race was won by Moore on a Honda. Moore got an excellent start and came onto the back stretch with just the momentum and track positioning to put his competition behind him for th e whole distance. The final was a wild one to get started as nervou s riders were not easily gridded. A false start pu t two riders on the pena lty line an d when the green lig ht did come on there was a first corner spill which brought out the red flag and another restart. Finally the event got underway with everyone but Rob Dameron. Moore proceeded to put qui te some distance between his H onda and the second place .Ro ta x of Dan Cah oo n ' s. Cahoon wanted to wor k on catchi ng up to Moore but was faced with the more serious problem of keepin g Steven Mayfield and his ROlaX at bay. Several times during the final Craig Joh nson put his Rotax into the battle for second p lace. By the eighth lap Cahoon and Mayfield pulled out a lit tle from Joh nson. Late in the event Moore bega n to lap the back markers and did so without a' probl em.' Cahoo n 'and Mayfield, however, were having to pass the back markers together, one on each side.
