Ba ldus started to pu ll away from the field on the second lap and never loo ked back. They also finished 1-2-3 in th e C Production Expert/Novice clas s. David Clyd e had to jockey for p<2sition in C Superbike Novice for Just a lap before he could pull a slick inside pass o n ea rly leader Steve Pinkley. Both were o n Hurricane 600s. Clyde dove under Pinkley as both were entering turn four, a lefthander that spits th e racers into th e sweeping caro usel, a nd th en motored on to the win. Cl yde also took hi s Honda to first Nov ice in C Production. Cl yde had to start from the second row of the combined Expert a nd Novice ra nks of- B Su pe rbike a nd weave through traffi c to pl ace fourth and th e o n ly Novi ce in the top five. . Ri ch Grav er handil y won th e combined races of Clubman Exper t! Novi ce and Vintage One on his Suzuki GS 450. But in th e Superbike/ . Vintage Three ra ce-it was a different story. Th e Midwa y Yamahasupported Graver pu lled the hol eshot o n RZ350 rid er Don Willmot. But nov ice Will mot ca ug h t and pass ed Craver and then lost the lead to Graver several times before ultimatel y taking the lead for good o n th e last lap. By Athie Sanders T ALLAHASSEE, FL, OCT. 4 Keith Jones cla imed th e overall win in the 125cc C class dunng round four of th e Budweiser sponsor edSoutheastern Championship Seri es at Hym an Myers Speedway Park. Wh en th e gates dropped at th e start of the first moto Russell Grater led the way as Wesley Griffen and Jones Iollowed. J ones attempted to ge t under Griffen in th e fir st turn but found th e door sh u t. Jones immediatel y mounted a no the r cha rge and put hi s Kaw asaki into th e second pl ace position. Ben Sanders mo ved up to challenge Griffen, and ~ot around him before th e end of th e first lap. Meanwhile, Chuck Bell, the o n ly 125cc A rid er at the tra ck, rode with the C class but was not scored with the m. Bell hung back at th e start of th e moto then turned it on to go after the lead. He sliced hi s way through the pack and cut under t ~ leader in a turn. Bell the n pulled . away to soar out front. Grater held a strong. lead in th e C class while Jones and Sanders left th e rest of th e p ack behind and ch a rged aft er Grater. In their distant wake th e motion was smooth except for action caused by sixth p lace rid err Ha l Mills as he fought to keep Jason Brown behind him. In the last lap Jones passed up Gra ter to claim the win, Sanders finished third ahead of Bnan Harrell and Kevin Sheppard. . Sanders holeshot moto two , but got edged out as Gra ter cut . under him. J o nes followed close behind the leaders. Sheppard was left in th e distance to set th e pace for the rest of the pack. Bell hung back at the start then charged up behind th e leaders as they en tered the giant bowI turn. Jones cu t under Sanders , p ushing him to the upside of the turn, and Bell cut to th e inside of both riders to pu t hi mself behind the lead er. Grater diced with Bell , but lost out to the A rider. Sanders pushed Jones for a short time then dropped orr th e pace. Be!1went down in a turn and Jones zipped on by a nd cla imed the lead. Bell got back o u t front in th e next lap, and J o nes foll owed him pas t th e final flag ~o claim th e second mot o C class WIn a nd th e overa ll. Grater held o n for second. Ed Logan, President, and hi s club members .did a great job a t setting up and getting .the tri~1 orr on tim e. T odd Coffey, with a bnllant ride, dominated the Expert class with a score of 26. Second place was awarded to Brad Howard with 55. Greg Krist finished third with 68 and Bob Capistrant was fourth with Martin Kerr finishing in fifth place. In th e Advan ce class, David Holly took first place with 90, one point o ver Ra ndall MitIer with 91. Third went to Mike Kerr with 100. Within seco nds after co ming a ro und th e fi rs t co rner T u r ne r p a ssed Paq uett e and began pulling a way. In the second turn Paquett e slid ou t, allowing Rutherfor d a nd Wageman to get by. Wagem.an begar: to put so me serious pressu re o n 12:>cc rider Rutherford. Rutherford. a proven Ascot specialist, began to rid e harder than ever in order to elude the hard chargi ng Wageman. H alfway th rough th e second lap di saster struck wh en Rutherford slid sideways and Wageman hit him, sending Ruther ford to the ground a nd Wageman head first into the cra shwall. Both rid ers were out for th e duration of th e even ing. At th e end of the second lap Turner still had th e lead foll owed by Paq uette, J ack Scott, a nd Mark Brooks. Scott threw away hi s H onda while Kline soo n ca ught upand passed Brooks. On th e final lap Klin e had also ca ugh t up to Paquette a n.d ~ as looking for a way arou nd. With Ju st seco nds left in th e race Klin e went wid e and th en cu t.over o n Paquett e. Paquette tried to slow down but his momentum was too great. Paq uette hit the rear end of Klin e's bike and killed his motor. Turner, still out in front, had a scare of his o wn wh en he h it a lapped rider. Fortunately for Turner he stayed up and took the mot o win. Following Turner was Klin e, Brooks, and Paquette . Second moto ac tio n saw Kline shoot to an ear ly lead ahead of Turner, Paquette, anaScott. A battle for third started to take place but ended when Scott passed Paq uette. Turner knew that in order for him 10 take the overall that he m ust pass Kline. Kline also kn ew this fact and wasn't about to give up his hard earned position. T~e two battled for the ' entire race with Kline never losing the lead . At the en d Kline grabbed the win followed by Turn er, Scott, 'a nd Paquette.
