James Ptarcinski (8) and Brian Gouveia lead the 80cc Beginner class thro ugh the first turn . and sent him over the berm, but Matson stayed within a few bike lengths. Surratt was a few seconds back in third while Andris fell off the pace and allowed Craig and Davis into the top five. . By the sixth lap Matson was back on Nelson's tail and chased him down through the switchback, went inside through a bermed tum and shut the door. Nelson was forced to shut off and Matson motored ahead into the lead. From then on Matson extended his lead and went on to take the win ahead of Nelson, Surratt, Craig and Davis. Craig ended up second overall with his 1-4 finishes, just beating Nelson's 3-2 score on accumulated points. Surratt was fourth overall and Watts worked up to ninth in the moto to lock up fifth . At the start of the first 125cc Pro race Davis got the jump on the gate and beat everyone to the first tum. He was followed by Honda rider Kyle Lew is, Matson and Manneh. Craig was a few bi ke lengths back ahead of Chris Young. By the end of the first lap Matson was right on Lewis an d tryi ng for secon d. As th e two riders exited a large berm and entered the whoops, they tangled and went down. Matson was the first to remount and quickly got back into the action while Lewis was slow to get up and gotunderway out of the top 10. Manneh moved into second, but Craig was catching him. Craig moved in and chased Manneh for a lap until he got by and charged ahead after Davis, who by this time was way out in front. Craig closed in on every lap, while Young was also working on Manneh and eventually got by for third. Craig finally hunted Davis down on the sixth lap and controlled the lead from then on. Manneh repassed You ng for third, and as the mota neared the end Surratt was in for fifth. Craig crossed the finis h line with first, followed by Davis, Manneh, Young and Surratt. At the start of mota two Suzu ki 's J im m y Gaddis and Ma tson shared the ho leshot but were forced wide as Surratt ha ndily took over the lead . Lewis, Matson, Manneh and Gaddis sorted themselves out behind. Lewis got on the gas and quickly passed Surratt, then moved ahead with the lead. Matson was once again charging for the lead and closed .in on Surratt coming d o wn a ro ugh straight. Matson moved alongside, but Surratt held the inside and shut the door. Out front Lewis was riding smooth and in control until he hit some loose dirt and fell. Surratt moved into the 'Iead followed by Matson, while Manneh and Davis also got by the fallen Lewis. Surratt poured on the juice and was moving away from Matson by the eighth lap while Manneh was inching his way closer to Matson. Manneh finall y slipped by on lap nine as Matson seemed to fade. This made the top I five Surratt, Manneh, Matson, Davis, and Lewis. On the last lap Davis worked on Matson and finally ~ot by at the end, making the finishin g order Surratt, Manneh, Davis, Mat son and Lewis. Manneh's 3-2 score got the overall win over Davis ' 2-3, and Surratt's 5-1 was good for third overall. Suzuki 's Buddy Antunez wrapped up the SOcc Expert title whe n he took the overa ll victory wit h a pair of wins . H e worked h is way past Kawasaki-mounted J oel Albrecht to take the first moto win while Suzuki rider Butch Smi th rode to third. In the second moto Dana Wiggins was the runner-up to Antunez and Smith once again took third, which was good for second overall. Albrecht finished the moto in fourth and scored third overall ahead of Wiggin. . Brian Roth rounded out the top five with 4-5 mota scores. Yamaha-mounted Trevor Meagher jammed his way to uncontested wins in both motos of the SOcc Intermediate 12-16 year-old class. Honda-mounted Spud Walters took home second overall with his 3-3 ride and Derek Natvig captured third overall with 5-2 finishes. Kennie McGrath and Jeffery Grafton .rounded out the top five. Billy Felts dominated the SOcc Beginner class, posting a I-I tally to take the overall win. He was in the lead in bo th mo tos by the end of the first lap . Yamaha rider Brian Couveia was second overa ll ahead of Kevin Cripper, R usty Holland and Todd Maderis. The 60cc 9-11 class looked like the Kawasaki Race of Cham p ions with all the riders on green bikes . Mike Metzger, Casey Johnson and Jeff Willoh all finis hed 1-2-3, respectively, in both mo tos for their overall finishes. Eric Schnell pos ted a 4-5 score for fourth overall while Steve Hengeveld's 6-4 earned fifth. • Willie Surratt (27) and Kyle Lewis battle for the lead in the second 125cc Pro moto.
