Lough sweeps Rolling Hills Motocross By Henry Muller REIDSVILLE, 'NC, SEPT. 20 Bare Brothers Suzuki/E&H Mining's Chad Lough held th e ho t hand in ro und two of th e AMA Distri ct 29 Par ts Un lim ited T ri-State Fall MX Seri es at Rolling Hills Cycle Park with four mo to wins in th e Senior Mini and 125cc Schoolboy classes. Georgia 's Ri chi e H orton topped th e Pee Wee and Junior Mini classes with Kevin Wal ker destroying the 125 and 250cc B classes. Lough started th ings off with a win in the first Seni or Mini moto o ver Tracey and Stacey Barnet t whil e J amie H ock ing and Ru sty Col eman filled out the top five. Moto two saw Tracey Barnett with the hol eshot over Lough and Patrick Slate. Neese was disqualified and second went to Sla te over Tracey and Stacey Barnett. Richie a nd Robbie H ort on dominated the Pee Wee class, fini shing 1-2 in both motos wh ile Brent Lou gh edged Chris Hu tch in s fo r thi rd overall. Bur ge had a loss in th e first ro und, so wh en he pulled to th e line in th e seco nd round, another loss to Andy Ow ins would eliminat e him. Burge was not to be denied, as he stopped the clocks at 5:21, wh ich would be tied later by Mark Miller as best time of th e day. The riders switched lan es for the runoff to determine the day's winner in the Open Knobby cla ss. Burge again got th e hol eshot and held o n to win with a 5:34. In th e 125cc Knobby class Kenny Riggins topped Jim Langston with a run of 5:60. Langston came up shor on a 5:42 run turned in by Heath Hoopes to win the 250cc Knobby class. . Daniel smokes Cook-Off Enduro By Rick Early L UCERNEVALLEY,CA,SEPT.1 3 And erson Dry Lake was the site 0 Family Racing Associat ion's (FRA) Cook-Off Enduro in which Yamahamounted Ri ck Daniel capture d th e overall victory. . Many riders showed signs of wea at the end of loop one, particularly in light of th e number of special tes sectio ns, which some com plai ned were more diffi cult tha n usual 'par ticularl y for a family enduro. Darren Rivers, a C rider on a 250c M-Star, had no complaints, however, after having dropped onl y 2.14 minutes and topp ing all one 100 riders. An other o u tstandin g first 100 ride was turned in by Rodney Luker, Jr. wh o pl aced third overa ll for on •loop while dad, Rodney Luker, Sr. went back to th e pits to prepare fo th e battle with loop two. The second loop got underway at 9;00 a.m . with riders leaving at 24 mph across th e desert floor. Aft crossing Northside Road, riders hi th e first check at 5.2 miles. j I T ony Casaga was on e of the firs riders to fini sh loop two with wha appeared to be th e score to bea having dropped seven and a .ha l minutes. H e was beat, how ever , b Brett Bainbridge and his 6.4 minut drop. Following th ese riders, however, was Barbender ace Jordan Ch an e turning in o ne of hi s o u tsta ndin rides of th e year with a 5.3 minut drop , eventua lly good enough fa third overall and first place honors in the Open A class. Kurt Butler 's ride was eq ua lly remar ka b le gi ven th at Kurt had ridden th e last 25 or so mil es of 100 two on a flat tire and still finishe with the o n ly o ther five of the da y. Finishing ahead of both Butle and Ch aney, however, was Daniel wit h first overa ll and a 4.293 min ut drop. At th e finish line, Daniel co mme nted th at , if measured b " to ughness," this was FRA 's bes race of the year. Like Butl er and Chaney, Daniel a lso experience mech anical difficulties finishing no on ly with a flat rear tire like Butle and Chan ey: but with a brok en rea brake as well. . While man y of th e riders com mented th at the Sep tember Cook-Of was' more difficult than the typi cal fam il y 'end uro , th ere were m~n y co mp liments as well , especia lly by A and even some B and Criders.
