Fisher fast at Castle Rock TT finale By Derryl Anderson CASTLE R O C K, WA, SEPT. 6 R ya n Fisher : Dave Bird /Knight Frames/Hogwash and D's Lea therssponsored, did a num ber on the competition to night and took home , first place money in the combi ned Junior/Expert class of the TT held at the Castle Rock Fairgrounds. It . was th e fina l night of a .two-day double pointer, bringing an end to racing this year at th e Mt, St.H elen 's Club tra ck. In the heat race Fisher got th e holeshot ahead of John Clayton Paul Peiroli and Ra ndy Roose. Afte; one lap Fisher began to pu t distance on the others while hanging it out on the high line. Meanwhile Roose started to make a mov e wh en a ll of a su dden his chain cam e off while going over the jump. Fisher went on to the checkered flag wi th 25 yards on Clayton, who had 30 yards on . Peiroli. In the other n eat race Del Schnitzer go t the scratch followed by Robert Froh~, Ron Adams and Billy Taylor. Schnitzer went to th e outside in a turn but found it tacky and lost it. Taylor used th e distraction to swoop everyo ne a nd tak e control of th e lead . On lap three Adams made a ni ce mov e on Frohs to tak e over second while Schnitzer wa s ca tch in g up. At the chec kered flag It was T a ylor , Adams , Schnitzer and Frohs. In th e main even t Fish er got th e scratch ahead of Roose, Schnitzer , Taylor, Cl ayton , Peiroli , Adams and Frohs. On la p o ne Rosse pulled off again with another thrown cha in and Schnitzer lost it once again. ~dam s w?rk ed his way up to third right behind Taylor. Fish er enjoyed a 2~ yard lead on Taylor, who continued to hold off Adams. O ut back Schnitzer wa s co m in g through traffic, but th e front runners were t~o far gone. At th e flag it was Fish er with th e win ov er Taylor, Adams, Clayton and Schnitzer. In th e 250cc Amateur main event J..P. .Simonsen got the holeshot and did It to th e pa ck, using his super smooth sty Ie. Eidenberger's payday for wins in A Production, B Production and the Illinois G rand Prix ca me to more than $2400. ~he fact that a top field of compentors was on hand for the even t made Eidenberger's victories even more impressive. Jamie J ames of Louisiana has been on a ho t str eak lately on his Suzukis. James h ad back-to-back $2300 week ends at Grattan, Michigan, and at Oak Hi ll Raceway in !e.xas, but James wasn't too optimIstIC about a third win in a row after Eidenberger beat him by 15 seconds in a Iour-lapheat ra ce on Saturday. " I have n ever been beat th at bad," he said, "not even by Doug Polen ." Eid enberger elected to run Metzeler tires o n his Suzuki rather than hi s usual Dun lops. T he Metzelers seem ed to work very well in th e coo l co n ditions. J ames led the fir st lap of th e B Production final , but a fter Eid en berger ou tb raked James in turn one on th e seco nd lap , all J ames co u ld do was watch Eid enberger pull away. As th e rid ers lined up for th e A Production race , everyo ne figured th e only question was wh o would finish second behind Eidenberger. They were right; Eid enberger took com ma nd from th e start and by th e sixth lap had opened a 10 seco nd lead o n th e tense conflict for second between James and Zampach. . With two la ps to go, he drafted past th e " Z-Man " at the end of the straights only to be repassed again seconds la ter . .Lapped traffic he lped decide the race for second. SE PT. 20 John Ashmead shattered Thomas Stevens' track record ?n the way to Will n mg the Heavyweight Superbike Expert class and the $1000 Shoot-Out at Moroso Raceway. SCOtt Cantrell captu red the top hon ors in the G TO 50 mi le endurance race and in the H ea vyweigh t Supersports class. After retiring from th e u nlim ited Superbike race with a broken th rottle cab le Ash mead was ted n o ti me in taking the lead of the Heavywe4:ht Superbike event. On la p three Ash mead set a new track record of 1:25.04 on the 2.2 mile course. He backed off as he started running into backmarkers b ut.stayed in the low 1:26 range. Mark Chin fin ish ed second o n his Yamaha. In a ll the excitment over the new record, a serious charge to the front of the pack from the back row was missed by most of the specta tors.
