Sweden's Dick Wicksell was top individual on a 250cc Husky. Wicksell won his 'final motocross special test moto over Italy's Giorgio Grasso. Husqvama's Fred Hoess was the top rider on th~ U.S. Jr. World team, finishing 13th in the highly' competitive 250cc class. 62nd International Six-Days Enduro East Germany sweeps Poland By Kit Palmer JELENIA GORA, POLAND, SEPT. 21-26 East Germany swept this year's running of the International Six-Days Enduro by claiming both the Trophy and Jr. World classes in the rugged mountains of northern Poland. Led by Simson rider Kladtke Reinhard East Ger, d ' many .capture the Trop~y class vICtOry over the heavIly 8 favored Swedi;sh. 'team; then came Italy, Great Bntam and Poland. The USA Trophy team .hmshed seventh for the second yea,r m ~ row. . . The Six-Days was Just about SiX days too lo':!g .for the U.S. Trophy team, consIstmg of Mark Hyde, Larry Roeseler, Dave Bertram, Kevm Hines, Drew Smith and Jeff Fredette. Just after the start on day one, Hyde fell and broke his wrist. His chase rider then took over on Hyde's motorcycle, agamst F~ rules. On day four the Hyde imposter was caught, but the FIM (for an unkown reason) did not penalize the U:S. for "cheating." Hyde's points stood. In the Jr. World bout, once again, East Germany soared to'the victory, finishing ahead of Italy and the USA. France and Czechoslovakia rounded out the top five. Nineteen countries competed in Poland for the Trophy competition, and the only team that had a chance ofsnatching the Trophy team victory away from East Germany was Sweden. Sweden captu~ed ~oth the 250 and 500cc class victones wllh Husqvarna riders Dick Wicltsell and Svenerik Jonsson at the helm. But transmission problems to Mikael Nilsson's Husqvarna on day one kept Sweden from the winner's circle. Wicksell captured the overall individual victory. . The USA's Junior World team, however, pulled through with a respectab1e' third. Fred Hoess Aaron and Kurt Hough and Randy Hawkins made up the American Junior World team with Hoess and rookie Aaron Hough: claiming two of only six gold medals U.S. riders were to earn. Bertram, Hines, Smith and club rider Fritz Kadlec were the other four. This year's top American in evaluation points was Bertram with a ninth in the 500cc class, riding a 430cc Automatic Husqvarna, while top class finisher was Honda XR2S0mounted Smith, who finished third in the relatively small 350cc FourStroke class.. Silver meda1s went to }iawkins, Ron Ribolzi, Fredette, Kurt Hough, William Burgener and Jeff Irwin. A total of 25 Americans •
