Ward roosted to a firs't moto win over Friesen, Thomson, Jeff Chapman, Steffy and Brian Thomson. Moto two was much the same for Ward. Ward took an all-too-easy win on the Yamaha Support/Lynnwood Yamaha/Scott USA/Kill-Gard/PSI YZl25 while Friesen's Honda again loomed in the number two spot, good for second overall after 2-2 rides. In the main event Kirkland caught fire and led Anderson, Gable, Morse and Struts into the first tum. Anderson pressured Kirkland everywhere but there just wa n't an opening. Finally on lap four Anderson used his ational hall mile experience to hang it out in turns three and four and slide around Kirkland on the high-side. (Vam~ Dodge hot at Castle Rock TT By Derryl Anderson CASTLE ROCK, WA, SEPT. 5 Ex-Pro TT specialist Don Dodge narrowly edged out Idaho's Glen Nickerson for the overall win in the 750cc Twin class of the TT rate held at the Castle Rock Fairgrounds. The Labor Day weekend capped off a two day double point race at the Mt. St. Helens MC club track, and a large turnout of riders showed up for the fina.le. In the heat race Dodge got the holeshot followed by Nickerson, Tim Stults, Kenny Wheaton, Rick Lavoy and Gary Hite. Wheaton slid past Stults on lap two while Dodge was styling his way around the high line. On lap three Dodge came uno tum four ultra sideways, but he got a little too low and layed it down. Wheaton, who just passed Nickerson, took over the lead. With two laps to go Wheaton layed it down in tum two just before the dogleg. Nickerson took the lead right to the checkered flag. In the main event Dodge got the scratch ahead of Stults, Wheaton, Nickerson, Hite and Lavory. Lap two saw the red flags come out as Stults got into turn one too hot and blew haybales all over. Dodge led Ni~erson, Wheaton, and Lavoy on the restart. Reentering the race was Hite but then Wheaton lost it right where Stults had. After checking everyone out, a lot of time was used up and the event was finally declared a race. The final order was Dodge, Nickerson. Lavoy and Hite. Spangler sizzles in Sugar Grove MX By Susan Willian SUGAR GROVE, OH, SEPT. 6 Team ·Green/TuflAnswer/Smith Goggles/Wiseco-backed Dale Spangler took four moto wins and the overalls m the Lightweight and Heavyweight Semi-Pro classes at the final round of the Central Ohio Competition Riders Third Annual Budweiser Classic Series. Span~ler had the lead by turn one in the first moto of the Ligh.tweight Semi-Pro class and was chased by Michigan's Jeff Beckington. As the duo traded the lead, multi-talented Mike LaRocco, who had a fourth place start, joined in on the battle for first. LaRocco zoomed around Beckington over a jump to take over second. Spangler held LaRocco to second as they took the checkered. Beckington finished third.. Mark Weaver rounded the first tum with the lead in moto two, chased by Spangler and Pepsispo.nsored Jon Agin. The trio jockeyed for position as they raced through the obstacles. Spangler charged past Weaver to take the lead on the third lap. Weaver bobbled putting Agin m second and Beekington in third. As Spangler stretched out a comfortable lead, Agin and Beckington went to war for second place. The white flag lap saw Beckmgton move by Agin to take over second. Spangler won, Beckington took second and Agin finished third.. LaRocco worked his way to fourth after a poor start. Troy Smith, on a' Suzuki, romped to the lead in the first moto of the Heavyweight Semi-Pro class, chased by Stevie Childress, Bowen, and Beckington. Childress took charge on lap one with Bowen and Beckington.moving up one position. Bowen closed on Childress and a dogfight developed for first. Bowen took the lead followed by Beckington, while Childress dropped to third, followed. by Spangler and LaR~co. Be5.ington and Bowen collided putting Childress back into the lead. Spangler moved into second and LaRocco was off the pace in third, followed by David Beckington. Beckington moved by LaRocco to take over third, while Beckington's brother, Jeff had dropped to sixth. r- -.. Andreu wins at Marion County MX By Gwen Millan REDDICK, FL, AUG. 2 A.lan Andreu won the l2Scc A, 25plus and Money classes at the sixth round of FMC's Summer Series hosted at MolOCross of Marion County. By the end of lap one in the first Money mOtO Andreu was in the lead but he could not back off a bit since Keylon was right on his heels. In third was Earl May on a Honda and Kawasaki rider Gary Paul was also right up there until he slid out and lost time. Lap after lap consisted of handlebar clashing, knobby knocking action as Keyon was challenged by Andreu. Paul was steadily making up for lost time and had his eyes set on May. As the sixth lap came around Keylon lost the edge on Andreu as he slid down. Andreu went on to win with Kaylon, May, and Paul following him home. In the second moto Keylon came on strong while May was second and Andreu was down in third after flipping over the.handlebars. By the . thud lap Andreu had regained control and taken over May, then charged after Keylon. On lap six Andreu had gained enough time to get alongside Keylon. Andreu passed Keylon, but a moment later Keylon was back around Andreu. Andreu took the lead again and on the white flag lap Keylon tried to take another line to get around Andreu but was unsuccessful. At the end Andreu had his second win in the Money class o with Keylon and May second and third.. Keylon also ran me 250cc A class and won both mOlOS. Andreu ran the 125cc A class, getting a second and first for the overall. Andreu also won both motos of the 25 Plus class. In the 250cc Intermediate Rodney Orron took charge on a Honda. In second was Kawasaki rider Lex Rowland while Randy Chum was trying to fight off Roger Ambs m third.. Crum passed Rowland and took over second, while Brantley gassed his way to third with Stan Perry ~g over fourth, putting Rowland down to fifm. On the sixth lap Orr, Brantley and Crum were dicing in tight combat, pushing hard at each other but the po itions held.. At the finish lme it was clo e between Orr and Brantley with Crum back a ways. Perry and Rowland finished out the top five. Crum looked like he was cruismg for a win as he charged off the line in the second moto. Orr and Ambs were close behind. By the second lap Perry had bypassed Ambs. The fourth lap proved to be disastrous for Ambs as problems dumped him down to ninth.
