Barrow wins three at Sturgis ST By Karen Lewis STURGIS, KY, SEPT. 20 Joel Barrow was a three class winner today at the Sturgis shon track.. Barrow took the wins on.a dusty track that saw Denne Williams and Jon Camp also take double wins. Barrow's first win came in the 80cc class. After overtaking early leader John Sherrard he cruised in for the win. Sherrard was dropped to third by Tommy Hayden while T.J. Burnette and Chris Boone filled in the lOp five. Barrow dialed in the start of the 125cc main and led every lap in taking the win. Burnette was second for .the distance over Chuck Allen. Barrow topped Jimmy Allen for the 200cc class win. After passing Scon Clark for the 250cr win Deime Williams went to the front of the Open class. John Clark shadowed him the entire way but came up a few feet shon at the line. Schwartz dominates IMS Speedway By Scott Daloisio SAN BERNARDINO, CA, SEPT. 16 Bob.by Schwartz, the defending ~atlOnal.Speed"."3YChampion, cpnunued hIS dommation of Southern California Speedway when he posted his ninth Cycle Rider, Inc. Scratch main event win at John LaDouceur's Inland Motorcycle Speedway. The "Boogaloo Kid" won two of his three Scratch rides. Bobby Ott had the pole 'for the main witJ:l Schwartz out of two, John Sandona ID three and Gary Hicks out of four. When the tapes went up, Schwartz pushed his Budweiser/ Silkolene/C.T.I. Brace/Justice Brothers/Answer Products Weslake into the lead ahead of On, Hicks and Sandona. Hicks gave On an early worry as he ttied to move by on the b,!!ck chute on lap <;lne. Oll fought. hIm off and when HIcks found some unneeded traction in tum wee, he hooked up and went down just in front of the crashwall. On continued to stalk the leader and slowly closed the gap on the third circuit. He closed but not en<;lugh to make a serious challenge, so 1l was Schwartz for his ninth IMS Scratch main of the year. On, a length and a half back, took second with Sarldona third and Hicks getting the wrap up. Scot.t B~nt got up from a grinding crash ill his Handicap semi to win that event and later in the evening the Handicap main. In fact, Bran~ swept the Handicap portion of the program. On made both mains but he almost had to sit out the Handicap eight lapper when his mOlOr would not fire. Jay Gianelli set the pace off the start over Brant and Billy Hamill. Hamill was passed by Andy Northrup and Tuff McBride at the end of the fim lap but he advanced back by McBride on the second revolution. Bra!,-~ got by Gianen~ for .the point poslllon and then Glaneni had his right foot peg break off forcing him lO pull out of the event. Brant, riding th;e Tuna ~nt/Amazon Trading/ Cuello Raong/Mesa Bearing/Brant Eng. Weslake, had assumed a commanding lead and he was going to be hard to catch. orthrup was in second spot but be hooked up and wbeelied off turn two on the fourth lap. NATALIA, TX, SEPT. 19' Mi~e Bradshaw, riding a Honda 250, easl1y won the Expert class in the Texas Motocross Circuit awards races. He was followed by Jack Beckham. The evening was spotted by several injuries, none more serious than simple fractures. Jason Krempin, a star in the 80cc Mini class, graduated to a Honda 125. He won the first moLO in the 125cc Novice event, but was unable to match this success in the accidentmarred second moto. Krempin n~ly fell once in the wboops, and did take a fall later in the moto but was still able to ride to a second-place behind Thomas Escamilla, who won the event. Jimmy Little came back from a second place ride in the first moto to win the second moLO and the 125cc Beginners evem. Rowdy Flanagan won the Mini Senior event aboard a Kawasaki, Wallace Jackson riding a Honda won the 250cc Beginner class, coming back from a sixth place in the first moLO. Preston McDonald easily won the 250cc Intennediate class, while Rusty McDowell, mounted on a Kawasaki, ~ode his green machine to a victory 10 the 125cc Intermediate class. Results Hawldnsr...Lipscomb romp at Rome Cycle RanchMX By Gary Crider ROME, GA, SEPT. 20 Round three of the Georgia Cycle Supply GAiAL Fall MS Series saw Tim Hawkins and Dan Lipscomb take hard-earned wins in the 250cc C and Open Bdivisions, respectively, at Rome Cycle Ranch. Alabama's Darryl Heisler won both A classes while Ryan Reynolds and Chance Matthews claimed double victories in their respective Mitti divisions. Tony Moms nailed the opening 250cc C holesbot but Hawkins sliced through early-lap traffic and took the lead fr?m Moms on the second lap. Hawkins held on for the win while Morris ran into trouble and was fourth at the finish behind Cliff Evans and Steve Jones. Hawkins searred his overall victory witb a second place finish in the final moto while Morris' 4-1 tally netted runner-up honors in a tied score over Jones' 2-3 score. Hawkins now. leads the points race over Jones. Lipscomb, 10 his third time out on his new Open class machine, put together a convincing 2-1 score LO win the hotly contested Open B contest. Freewbeeling Hondabacked Lipscomb holeshot the fust mo~o but yielded to John Trissell dunng the opening lap. Trissell stretched his lead while Lipscomb and Billy Ethridge argued over second spot On the last lap Ethridge crashed out of contention giving second spot to Lipscomb abead of Jay McClellan and Kevin Brule'. Brian Compton led Lipscomb at the start of molO two but Lipscomb got by for the win and the overall. Trissell turned a poor start into a second place finish to. net second overall over Brule' and McClellan. Compton's 8-3 was good for fifth place ~old. Lipscomb's win gave him the pomts LO take the series lead from Brule'. Series leader Mall Shue won the first Junior Mini moto but was held badly back in molO two with sprained wrist Shue surrendered the day's win and the series lead to Reynolds.
