Sandell successful atDenverSX By Larry Johnson DENVER, CO, AUG. 29 Kip Sandell won both the 250cc and Open Pro classes at the Raceland Supercross and remains the most successful supercross rider in Colorado this year. In six event., l'p has been a double winner three times, while no other rider has done so even once. But due to some severe hand blistering early in the season and poor finishes at other races, .the Vickery Motorsports-sponsored nder is out of the points lead in either class. The normal duel between Sandell and Dave Newell in the Open Pros never materialized. Sandell gated first in moto one while Newell came Saturday, September 26th Kip Sandell won both the 250 and Ope'n Pro classes at the Raceland Supercross. -Bargains - Close outs - Clearance-Damaged - Overstocks - Discontinues-Performance - Fiberglass - TIre!!>- out fourth, but by the time Newell reached second Sandell was too far ahead. Newell crowded Sandell for half of moto two, but Sandell eventually eased away. Jim Mitchell led Corey Cope and Derek Brown to the first turn of the initial 250cccc Pro moto. ewell came out sixth ahead of Tim Buchli, while Stacey Cook was in ninth and andelJ was dead last. Mitchell stayed out front until the nexl-to-Iast lap, then Cope took over. Newell was fourth behind Brown, and Sandell had roared all the way to fifth ahead of Buchli. Mitchell's' chain broke on the final circuit, giving second to Brown behind winner Cope. Newell finished third ahead of Sandell and Buchli. Buchli led the charge from the gate in moto two ahead of Sandell and Brown. Cook was fifth, Cope sixth and Newell eighth. Sandell took the lead on lap two and left everyone behind. Buchli never surrendered second, but Cope took over third with two laps left. In this position he had the overall in hand, but he crashed. With Cope out Sandell had no other serious threat to the overall. Cook, Buchli, Mitchell and Keith Campbell had a great battle in the 125cc Pros. Cook won the first moto ahead of Mitchell, Buchli and Campbell. For all but the last lap of round two the order was exactly reversed until Buchli passed Campbell for the lead and win. This gave him a 3I tally and the overall ahead of Cook, who passed Mitchell and had a 13 score. Campbell at 4-2 edged Mitchell's 2-4 for third overall.
