My team, Hi-Tech Racing, finished second in GTO and second overall at Sears Point, and our performance . is accurately reported in the article. But I am disappointed not to see one of our importan t sponsors, Bruce Finlayson Design, listed along with our other sponsors. This spOnsor added their significant support to our effort in late May of this year. At each of the AMA/CCS Endurance events we've gone to since then (Loudol}, Elkart Lake, Mid-Ohio, Memphis and Road Atlanta), I have registered Bruce Finlayson Designs as well as the other sponsors we started the season with (Conser Coach, Reliable Cycle, Amsoil, Michelin). In none of the Cycle News' reports of these events was Bruce Finlayson Design included wi th our list of sponsors. LARRY JEURI K Hi-Tech Racing Allendale, MI The provisional results of the Sears Point race which were released to the press do not show Bruce Finlayson Design as one of your team's sponsors. We suggest you follow up on the omission with AMAICCS officials . .. Editor. No dogs! I think the AMA ruling of "no dogs in the pits" is a lousy ruling. We have been going racing together for severa] years, always including our dog and encountering no ·problems. . I am very much aware of the safety factor of a dog running loose in the pits, but for those of us who keep our dogs tied up in our pit areas or on a leash, it is unfair. This year I've had to stay home with the dog while Dan and Sam have go.ne racing. I don't enjoy it! BARBARA I GRAM Indianapolis, I Dan Ingram is a competitor on the Camel Pro Series and his father, Sam, is a former dirt tracker . .. Editor. Super event I would like to thank Rick and Laurie Hammel, the Little nake M.e., and everyone else involved with the AMA National Championship Hare & Hound held on September 6 near Craig, Colorado. My friends and I, who came from southern California, all had a great time and orne of us even trophied in various classes. I also want to encourage other racers to support these National events. Without adequate support, these events may not be held in the years to come. Lastly, my thanks to Darryl Folks who stopped by our campfire and sh,,:red some interesting bench raong. SCOTT NICOLITZ Whittier, CA Legislative Folders Thank you for running my letter in the September 9 issue. We have had a fantastic response with numerous calls every day requesting the Legislative Folders. If you want (to get) the word out, Cycle News does it! DANA BELL Legislative Officer Sports Committee District 37 AMA, Inc. KEN JO ES Fitchburg, MA Contact the CX - Turbo International Owner's Association, 1530 Briarwood, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858, 5171772-2296 ... Editor. Disappointed MX fan I waited a long while to attend the Motocross des Nations in the United States and it turned out to be a sore disappointment. Ye , the U.S. won, but that was the only bright spot. Larry Maiers, of MotoWorid fame, wa downright embarrassing in his announcing. He virtually ignored the European riders, except to downplay their ability in comparison with the U.S. riders. It was a constant hype of U.S. patriotism. Remember the '84 Olympics in Lo Angeles? To make lhings worse, the man seemingly has little knowledge of world cia s MX and MX in general. And near the end o[ the last moto, after R.j. .(Rick Johnson) had won and ensured the American team of victory, the announcer did not give placings of olher riders, what country came in econd or third, or even when or where the trophy presentation would take place. Did the U.S. get this treatment in Italy last year? I can't help but wonder bow welcome the Euro actually felt. Of course we have the best riders in the world; they are greatl But the other countries gave 100% too. How about a little equality? America is supposedly renowned for fair play throughout the world, yet little, if any, was shown at Unadilla. Let's clean up our act a litLle and show what America is all about. Our riders are some of the world's best. Let's not cheapen their fine performance by pettilless. South Florida Racing's (Yam) Rick Shaw and John Long won the AMAI CCS Endurance Series road race at Moroso Raceway in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 19. High Tech Racing (Suz) finished second with Team Lockhart (Suz) rounding out the top three. The GTU class win went to Kayo Racing (Hon). The October 10 Pomona, California, round of the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Championship Grand Prix Series has been canceled. That will make the September 26 round at Las Vegas; Nevada, the final event of the series. Upcoming international motorcycle shows include the October 7·11 Birmingham, England, show, the' November 14-21 Paris, France, show, and the November 21-28 Milan, Italy, show. Lorillard of Greensboro, North Carolina, is test marketing HarleyDavidson cigarettes in Terre Haute, Indiana. The cigarattes come in a black pack with an embossed gold Harley eagle proclaiming "Harley-Davidson Custom Blend." Lorillard licensed the name and according to brand manager Victor Lindsley, "Our objective is to capitalize on Harley-Davidson's pre-existing image to generate interest and appeal to the male segment of the cigarette market. The 22nd Annual Anaheim (California) Motorcycle and ATV Expo will take place in the Anaheim Convention Center November 27·28. Discount tickets for $1 of[ the adult adrnis ion price are available at local participating motorcycle dealership. If you're in southern California this coming weekend, you can catch a special speedway racing program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa on Friday night, September 25, and the Camel Pro Series Ascot Half Mile in Gardena on Saturday night, September 26. Jack Milne, the 1937 Speedway World Champion will ride his title winning bike around the Costa Mesa track as the facility is hosting the "Great Speedway Reunion," In addition to Milne, former World Champion Bruce Penhall will be on hand, as well as Rick Woods, Kelly and Shawn Moran, current champ Bobby Schwartz, Ron Preston, Jim Fishback and Sonny Nutter. Saturday night Camel Pro champ Bubba Shobert will be trying to lock up his third straight AMA Grand National Championship title. The Honda rider will have to fight off Harley-Davidson's Scott Parker to pull that off.. If Australian road racer Wayne Gardner finishes in front of Randy Mamola in the Brazilian Grand Prix on September 27 he will sew up the 500cc World Championship. If Gardner does beat Mamola he will become the first-ever Australian to win the 500cc title.
