Emig, Theriot take Arkansas MX titles By Barry Thornhill PINE BLUFF, AR, SEPT. 6 Je[f Emig claimed victory in the l25cc Intermediate class and Ben Theriot topped the 250cc Intermediate battle to claim state titles in their respective divisions at the Arkansas State MX Championships, held at Camel Back Motocross. . Emig used his Gary Emig Racing )(X125 to' jump out to an early lead in l25cc Intermediate action. Emig was followed out of the first turn by Kawasaki-mounted Jason Owens and Yamaha rider Chad Montero. When the pack .finished lap one, Emig had pulled a slight lead with Montero closing in on Owens. By the time lap three was complete, Emig was all alone out front, Montero had taken over second and Suzukimounted Mark Stahlman had pushed Owens back to fourth. The order remained the same to the finish with Montero closing slightly on Emig but not enough to overcome Emig's lead. The second moto saw Emig once again jump out to an early lead with rival Montero buried in 18th place. By the end of lap one, Emig had built up to a commanding lead aver Kawasaki-mounted Chris Jones and Honda Pilot Tommy Whitney. All eyes were glued on Montero as he charged his way through the pack, moving up 13 positions to fifth place in only one lap. By lap three, Montero moved into second behind Emig, who had built up a huge lead. The final order was Emig, Montero and Jones. Opening action in the 250cc Intermediate class saw local favorite Steve Ashcraft blast his Yamaha to the front as the pack raced down the starting straight. He was followed by Suzuki rider Mark Stahlman, with Honda-mounted Todd Thompson running third. As the pack spread out, it was Kawasaki rider "Bullet Ben" Theriot blasting his way to the front from a fifth place start after only hali a lap. By lap three, Theriot had built up a huge lead over Ashcraft who had a comfortable lead over Yamaha rider Jerry Benner. The order remained the same for the rest of the moto. The second moto saw Ashcraft once again jump to an early lead to have Theriot take over before the end of lap one. Brad Bookler put his Suzuki in third behind Ashcraft. The leading trio never allc;>wed anyone else a chance as they steadily pulled away from the pack to the finish. ·Results A\\ NeW Order. Now!
