Former multi-time MX champ Marty Smith piloted his Kawasaki to second in the Class 21 ranks behind Manley. Eric Hallgath won Class 20 (1 2 5cc) guiding his Yamaha YZ 125 to a top 10 finish in both motos to win that class championship. Hallgath topped a small field for , the Class 20 champ ionship. M yerscough was very happy with his Class 22 championship, th is was his first race in over four months. Scott Mapes and former multi-time National motocross champ Marty Smith were all in tow. Class 20 leader Hallgath was running back in 11th overall. . By the start of the second lap, ' Myerscough was pouring it on and started to ,stretch out his lead on fellow Class 22 rider Griewe, who had a small margin on Class 21's front runners, Manley and Kawasaki pilot Smith. Myerscough was seven seconds ahead of Griewe by the halfway point of the race as they continued to lead Yamaha YZ250 rider Manley, Smi th, r 16 KTM -mounted Todd Campbell, Mapes, J o hn Cameron and Hallgath. By the fifth lap , Myerscough had the race and the lead in Class 22 under control.. He was clicking off cons istent lap times in the 1:52-1:53 range and maintaining a comfortable lead on Griewe. Manley and Smith were running fairly close for th ird and fourth overa ll 'and the top two spots in Class 21. On the last two circu its of th e eight-lap moto, Myerscough had a secure lead, but the Manley-Smith bat tle had caught up to Griewe an d the three were fighting over second overall. · On lap seven, Manley and Smith both found a way around Griewe and moved into second and third overall, but they were well behind Myerscough. , At the end of the eight-lap race Myerscough took the moto wi n, followed by Manley (fir st in Class 21), wi th Smith, Griewe, Campbell, Mapes, Cameron, Jeff Darland, Rick Lee and H allga th (first in Class 20) rounding out the top 10 overall. Class 30 had Ehlers taking the ..moto win and Class 38 was topped by Jackson on a H usqvarna. In the second moto, Griewe had the quickest starting line run and he hit the pavement in fro nt of Myerscough. Through the first lap Griewe kept the lead with Myerscough holding second ahead of Manley, Mapes and Smith. On lap two , Myerscough started to look for a p lace to get by Griewe, but found no openings and remained tucked in for second. Manley was still running third overall and leading Class 21 ahead of Smith: who' had . moved up to fourt h overall. Myersco ugh shadowed Griewe through lap three, then on the fou rth circuit he held it on just a little longer and zipped by Griewe on th e "Ridge" to ta ke ' over the lead . Myerscough had a small advantage when th ey ca me back onto the pavemen t to start lap five, then was back u p to his blisteri ng pace of the first mo to and started to pull away. By the sixth lap , thin gs had sett led in to order wi th Myerscough leading Griewe, Manley, Smith and Mapes. Myerscough had no trouble leading the last two lap s of the race and took h is second moto win and the Class 22 championship. Griewe held on . for second overall and secon d in Class 22, while Manl ey brough t his Yamaha ho me in third o verall for the Class 21 championship . Filling out the to p five were Sm it h (second in Class 21)and Mapes (third in Class 22). H all gath secured the Class 20 honors wi th an excellent ride tha t netted hi m seventh overal l. The Class 30 ra nks saw Yamaha pilot Eh lers out front again to take the class ch a m p io n sh i p , while H usqvarna-mounted J ackso n tu rn ed in another solid perfromance for his Class 38 title. " T he first race went pretty well ," said Myersco ugh . " I wa nte d to get the holeshot, then I j ust rode my own race. The guys behind me were go ing pretty good, but I built up a pretty good lead. . " In ·the secon d race Don got ou t in fro nt and it took me a few lap s to get by hi m , because th e trac k is rea lly fast. This is my first race in about four month s, I' ve pretty much r eti red from motocross ," said Mye rscough .
