SCORE Off-Road World ChamRionship-s Manley, Myerscough dominate.Riverside By Mike Larson Photos by Jimmie O'Dell RIVERSIDE, CA, AUG. 22 Brian Manley and Brian Myerscou gh took home th e victories in the premier motorcycle classes at the 15t h An n ual SCORE Off-Road World Champions hips at Riverside International Raceway. Yamaha -mounted Man ley . claimed his fourth SCORE title at Riverside with a victory 14 in Class 21 (250cc). The win marked Manley's third Class 21 championship adding to the Class 22 (500cc) title that he won last year. Man ley had intended to ride the 500cc class but switched. to the 250cc bike after practice on Friday. Myerscough returned from a fourmonth layoff from racing to win both eight-lap motos and take his first SCORE championship in Class 22 on a Honda. Eri c Hallgath continued to be th e top gun of the 125cc ranks, piloting his Yam aha YZI25 to a top 10 overall finish in both motos to take home th e Class 20 championship. In Class 30 (riders over 30 years old) Ken Ehlers was the winner, while Richard Jackson repeated his performance of 1986 when he took th e win in Class 38 (riders over 38). This may have been the last SCORt. Off-Road World Championships held at Riverside Int ern ational Raceway, due to the facility's on-again, off-again closure. Each motorcycle class ran two, eight-lap motos on the 1.5-mile course that was laid out in the area around the "esses" of the regular auto track. The track had a little of everything, including pavement sections, jumps and the wide-open, off-camber "Ridge. "_ Class 22 champ Myerscough turned in the fastest lap time of the weekend with a blistering 1:52, faster than the off-road trucks, buggies and ATVs. The fastest time turned in by the trucks was 2:05 and the only time close to the bikes was turned in by Class 24 ATV champ Rodney Gentry at 2:03. Myerscough had his Rapid Transit" Racing-backed 500cc Honda in front of the motorcycle pack as they blasted around the pavement section in front of the grandstand at the start of moto one.
