Cook, Newell capture LakewoodMX By Larry Johnson LAK EWOOD, CO, AU G . 2 As in five previous occasions this season, Stacey Cook wo n both th e 125 and 250cc Pro o vera lls, Dave Newell wo n the Open Pro overall and An dy Atk ins won the 80cc Expert overall a t th e Sports Ri der Associ a tion of Col orado MX in Lakewood. Each of these rid er s has the SRAC Champion ship point lead in his divisio n . Cook who h as totally do m inat ed the 125cc Pros, wo n his II th of 12 overalls today with a p er fect I- I tally. Those two wins gave him 21 moto victo ri es ou t o f 24 this year. Tim Buchli fin is hed seco n d in each of today's motos, Jim Mi tche ll an d Ar t DeHoff traded th irds, with Mi tchell taking that spot fro m DeHoff late in moto two. While Cook has not bee n q uiteas proficient in the 250cc P ro s, today m ark ed his n inth overall win in 12 outings. H e led rno to one from startto-f inish, w h ile Derek Brown trail ed clo sely in second. Corey Cope h ad to come from 10th to fin ish th ird . Coo k nailed hi s fourth holeshot in as many tries in moto two, ahead of Bro wn an d Cope. Bu t Cope shot p ast both Bro wn and Cook on lap three . . H e stayed out front th e rest o f the day, but Cook n ever ga ve u p seco n d to win the overall ahead of Cope. It was the seven th ti me Cope has come in seco n d to' Cook. Cope h as won 10 rnotos to Cook's II this year, but has taken on ly two overall s for h is effort. Newell has been just as p owerful in th e Open Pro class. His two wins today increase d h is total for the seaso n to 18 of 24 an d n in e of 12 overalls. H e nev er trailed in round one, but Jim Thompson led h im for four laps in moto two. Atk ins won bo th h is mo tos on his way to h is eighth of II overalls. On six o f the se occasio ns, h e has had a perfect day 'a n d h as won 14 of 22 motos th us far. Moto o ne was a threewa y battle with J erem y Middaugh an d Sco tt Fulcher. Fulcher kept sight of Atki ns durin g ro u n d two , but h ad to settl e for seco n d. Results 60 NOV: 1.
