In th e fir st m o to it looked as though McG rath had th e ho lesh o t but went down in turn o ne a n d remoun ted in last pl ace. Fairfield Kawasaki-supported Dave Wood wa s ou t front , as McG rath was fl ying past slower riders at a n a ma zin g rate. By the chec kered fla g McGrath had th e lead , whi le H onda-m ounted Greg Tirheimer, a fter a co u p le of cras hes, held o n for seco nd. Danny Pal adin o p u t his H onda in for third ahead of Wood and Kawasaki-m ounted Ray Cru m b. Mot o two wa s a ll McG ra th 's as he led from wire-to-wire. Tirheimer finished second after sneaking in on a borrowed bike aft er his o wn mount b lew up at th e finish o f th e first moto. Nelson roosted h is Honda to both rno to wi ns in th e l2 5cc P ro class wh ile hold in g off Yamaha-mounted Tim McClintock in th e first rno to and Sean Conley's Kawasaki in th e fina l go-around. Conley used a 3-2 score to secure seco nd overa ll with McC lintock third overa ll by virtue o f a 2-4 ta ll y. H o nda -mou nted Dann y Pa lad ino fin ish ed th e day 43 a nd fo urth overall for his effo rts wi th fifth overall goi ng to Greg Tirhe imer (7-5). Bro thers Mark a nd Peter laco p i made a rare appearance at Ba ylands a n d took home two large first place trophies for their efforts. Both won two rnotos Mark dominat ed th e 125cc Begin ner class; whi le Peter did th e sa me in th e 250cc Begin ner clas s. For Mark, hi s closest competition in th e 18 rider field wa s T yron :Farley on a Kawasaki: Fa rley led for a whi le in th e first moto bu t en ded wi th a seco nd and th en came back with a . fourth in th e second moto. Mark laco p i rode hi s H o nda smoo th ly and n ever lo o ked out of co nt ro l. Although J oh n Lea took second o n a Kawa saki in th e second moto he was no t in serious co ntention for th e lead. The 250cc Begin n er class had 13 entra nts. Wh en th e ga te dropped in rno to o ne, three riders sla m med into the first co rner side-by-side, th ey were Ch ri s O'Bergin, Kelly H o ffer and Peter laco pi . Within the first la p , laco p i worked into a so lid lead and n ever was threaten ed afte r th a t. -' O' Bergi n ca m e to grief and fin ish ed last, whi le H o ffer spent th e whole m o to ho ld ing off Mark Canepa. The fin ish order was lacopi, Hoffer and Canepa a ll o n H o ndas. In th e seco nd rnoto, laco p i got th e ea rly lead a nd agai n Hoffer fell in behind him. Antiques roll in Ohio By Leo Levis WAUSEON, O H , J U LY 18-19 In recen t years the Antique Motorcycle Club has designated certa in makes, models or types of motorcycles to be honored at so me of its m eets . The Maumee Vall ey Chapter AM C chose to hon or mi litary machi nes at its annual meet and on Saturday over 30 of th ese warriors from two world wars were displa yed in a special area. Bu t wh en field meet time ro lled arou nd many of them left th e dis play area to co mpete si nc e th ese ar e no t on ly show motorcycles but riding m o torcycles as well. T h e fie ld m eet co nsisted o f a clo th espin drop , tire toss , slow race, p olo and abli ndfo ld obs tacl e co urse for three whee lers. In th e aft ernoon, while the Ilea m arket was in fu JI swin g, th e ra ce track wa s ope ned to exerci se yesterday's racers. In th e even ing a ba nquet was held at th e Fu lton County Sportsman 's Club.
