Seyer, Kasten win Wausau Half Mile ByAJ Sum mer WAUSA U, WI, J ULYS The R ib Mountain Riders closed out the a nn ual Wisconsin Triple Head er weekend with a half mile even t at Marathon Park, in downtown Wausa u, and provided the 90 riders o n hand wi th the finest sha pe the race track has seen in years. Cliff Eckes j r. and j oe Bentfield sho t to the front of the 2S0cc class fin al and bat tled for four laps. In lap five, Eckes dropped off th e pace an d Bret Beyer, wh o had a horrend ous start, moved into second. As Bentfield en joyed a co mfo rtable lead at th e start of the white flag lap, Beyer refused to give up and contin ued his amazing charge to the front. As th e distan t twosome entered tum three on the last lap, Beyer got a n unbelievable driv e and bla sted past Bentfield to claim a well-deserved win. Eckes held on to finis h third. Steve Kasten , Mark Mu th , an d Peter H ook grabbed the top three spots at th e start of the 600cc Amateur class and easily pulled away fro m the rest of the pac k. T he obv ious presence of rocks prevented Muth or H ook from making any mov es o n Kasten , as Kaste n scored a n uncon tested win. Dave Du r elle, riding a 600cc Wood-Rotax , was clearly the class of th e 7S0cc Pro-Am field as he o vercame a mediocre start to pu ll away to a comfortable win. Mar ty Bush -: man held a lon ely secon d wh ile Greg Wagenknecht cha rged fro m a p oor sta rt to grab third place honors. Audie H uff used all of hi s riding talen ts to distan ce h im self and his Ro tax from the rest of th e field .
