Coen sweeps South Woods MX By John Spear SOUTH ' WOODS, N Y, JULY 19 Desp ite tough competitio n, Carlo Coen swe p t four Expert m o tos a t a rain-interrupted South Woods MX, claiming top honors in th e 125 and 250cc Expert di visions, Coen's victories came despite the presen ce of such riders as Mickey Kessler from New J ersey, Rob Hayes from District 6 a nd Da ve Andonucci o f Conn ecticut. H ayes p ushed Coe n for most of bo th l 25cc motos u ntil Carlo p ulled away at th e en d, An donucci was third in th e first m o to. In th e first 250cc m ot o, Coen led a lmost th e ent ire wa y with Kessler, An donucci a nd Mik e Spear rai lroadi ng a lon g behi nd h im . Coen had it a lit tl e easier in th e seco n d m o tos , A ndo nu cci a n d Kessler p acked up a nd went home after a n h o u r-long , to rre ntia l rainstorm tu rn ed portio ns o f th e track into a quagmire. But th a t didn ' t sto p Coen's p erfect a fternoo n. H e pulled a way from H ayes in th e seco nd l 25cc m oto a n d stop ped Spear in th e seco n d 250cc rnoto, Spear took th e Open Ex pert di vision with a 2-1 tally. H e led m ost o f th e fir st rnoto , held just af ter th e ra ins torm, a fter passin g Dou g Mitche ll in .the th ird lap. But, wi th a five-second lead over Kessler, Spear slid out in a slow corner and that gave Kessler the opening h e needed.
