These positi ons held until th e rn o to's end. Results Dustin Hotson (3) leads the 250cc C class at South Georgia Motocross. Hotson wound up taking second overall to Floyd Carter. . Carter caps South Georgia Motocross By Gwen Millan VALDOST A, GA , JULY 26 The 'fourth ro un d of FMC's Summer Series South Geor gia Motocro ss in Valdosta had some rid ers worried, as many traveled through so me very bad wea ther wondering if toda y was to be a mud race. Luckil y for all , th ere was just enoug h rain to mak e the clay track tacky enough to be enjoyed by everyone. The ever gro wing Senior cla ss was read y a nd waiting, with the gates almo st filled , the card dropped and off they went . Ta king th e lead a nd heading in th e early stages of la p o ne was H onda racer Denn y H unter. The seco n d lap , Hunt er su ccumbed to Carter' s ag gressive charge a nd now was in seco nd. P roctor himself was putting in a bid for th e lead as he moved u p to thi rd . The top five wa s still changing a nd Stouffer alo ng with Proctor was putting pressure on Carter. By th e third lap Carte r .~ad put a little distance betw een film a nd second and lapped riders were helping him ou t also. Hunter passed back Proctor and fifth was now being claimed by Robert Godfrey, wh o had made a good pa ss on Reynolds. The white flag ch arge to th e front was on Carter con ti n ued his lead whil e H~nter took over second, overtaking Stouffer. The race finally ca me to an end a nd Carter dominated. Nafzi ger finall y passed, a nd once aga in pulled aw a y from Ma th en y and Geo rge Betzen a t the finis h . Moto two started wi th a who le new cast of charac ters. Tim Miller led Corey Brink o u t of the gate, a nd Brink took the lead sho rt ly th er eafter. By la p th.ree, Mitch Eckha rd t had overtaken Mill er for second, while T erry Kappelmann had worked to third. One lap later, Nafziger roared to second, but Kappe lma n n retook th e position on the next go-'ro und. Brink, Kappelm3;nn and Nafzier ran in close formation to th e chec kers with Kapplem ann taking the v~cto~y over N,,:fziger and Brink. Na fziger s 1-2 easily earned th e overa ll. David Beavers took th e early lead in moto o ne of the Open Amateurs ahead of Brian Phelps. Phelps took the lead on lap two, only to ~ave his gearbox go out. Bc;ayers regamed the lead, but was receiving pressurre from Dan Sh ockman. Shock man took the lead on lap four and pulled away when Beavers lost his sil encer. T o keep from breaking the club 's self-imposed II p.m. cu to ff the amate~r races were sho rte ned to four laps, pl acing a prem ium on good starts a nd mistak e free riding. The Expe rt fin al s were sho rtened , to six laps and that was just eno ugh for Craig Estell e as he blew through the pack to overtake Du ane Veeder for th e win in the Open Expert class . Estell e used the superior traction a vailable across most of th e track surface to adva nt age as he che wed Veeder' s huge earl y lead down. Brian T ill son wa s third , with j as on Fletch er fourth. In the 250cc Expert race however , Estell e had things more h is wa y, as he led earl y a nd a t th e flag. Pennington found himself III front a t th e start of the first moto and was able to stretch his lead wh en a crash by Craig Porter caused a bottleneck and slowed th e rest of the pa ck.
