WASHOUGAL, WA, JUNE 27
The CMC Pac-West Series moved 10
Washougal MX Park this weekend
for the second.and third rounds on
Saturday and Sunday. New owners
Ralph Huffman and Bob Leach, did
a tremendous job on the track.
Some 300 riders tackled the track
on Saturday with Yamaha support
rider Larry Ward picking up l25cc
Pro honors while Mike Larson,
aboard a KSI-sponsored Kawasaki,
out-gunned Yamaha rider Scott
Tyler for the 250 and 500cc Pro wins.
In 125cc Pro action it was a threerider battle in both mows between
Ward, Canadian Honda rider Steve
Freison and Oregon's Grayson Hart
on a Kawasaki. The first mow found
Freison putting in a nice ride to take
the win, while Ward and Hart_
followed. In round two it was Ward
turning the tables on Freison while
Hart was again third.
The 250cc and Open classes
belonged to Larson and Tyler as each
rider put on great shows in both
classes. Tyler won both the first
motos in both classes with Larson
close behind. In the second mow, it
was Larson who took the wins and
the overalls.
The Up the Hill class found some
interesting racing going on in each
mow. The overall win went 10
Portland Honda rider Kurt Stevens
via two first place finishes, but
several riders were scrapping for the
next four overall positions. The first
moto found Yamaha-mounted
Jayroe Nickle out-distancing Chris
Moritz and Devol Engineering's own
Ted Devol across the line for second.
The second mow found Moritz able
to hold off a hard-charging Devol for
second while Nickle and Rod Crater
took fourth and fifth.
The 80cc Intermediate class also
had some close racing during the day
with the battle of the northwest Mini
titans taking place. Tqp overall spot
ended up going to Kawasaki rider
Jason McCormick via a 2-1 tally with
Darmy Ulven and Ryan Huffman
settling for second and third.
In the 2:iOcc Beginner class, Honda
rider Wayne Christenson looked
good for both wins with 10LS of action
going on behind him. Don Schneider
flew his Honda past Erin Sullivan
in the first mow 10 claim the econd
place honors over Sullivan with
John Hobson and Ken Lindhorst
taking fourth and fifth. With Christenson again up from in the second
moto, Schneider, Lindhurst and
Su llivan battled [or the next three
spots. Lindhorst made the best of the
situation by taking second in the
mow with Sullivan, winning the war
and taking second overall.
