"The thing about MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER ... is that they have inte.grity." -Suze "ann of Man and Majorca, which must have more switchbacks than any place in the world." Name: Suze Mann Occupation: President, Suze Mann Marketing Memorable event: "In 1985 I was the first woman to ride the . Riding history: "A friend taught me to ride his H!lrley Hummer in the proverbial parking lot. The next day I bought a 650 BSA Super Rocket and rode 200 miles up California's Coast Highway I. I started riding off-road three years later. I've done, trials, enduros, and vintage roadracing at the club level. MOTORCYCLIST editor, Art Friedman recently wrote, '~he one continuous thread thru my life is motorcycling.' For me also, regardless of what else I've done, there have always been motorcycles." PHOTOS: ART FRIEDMAN from the mid-'70's to mid-'80's." Professional background: "I started in the industry in 1962 as bookkeeper and parts salesperson for a motorcycle dealership. In '64 I began traveling the racing circuit with 'Bugs' (Dick Mann), and when we divorced in 1970, I sold ads for Motorcycle Weekly, eventually becoming national advertising manager. I worked as technical writer for S&W Engineered Products and public relations manager at R.c. Engineering. Since .1981 I've been self-employed, first as a partner in Route 66 Marketing in Tulsa, and now on my own. I also did freelance photo-journalism Riding preference: "I use my BMW Kloo to travel in my work, putting on 40,000 to 50,000 miles a year. It's only been in the last several years that a name has evolved for the type of riding I've always done: 'sport-touring.' Highway I was my first ride, and it's still my favorite. When I'm 90, if it could be my last ride, that would be fine with me. I've ridden most of Europe and all but two states. I can't think of a bad road in Colorado or New Mex~co, and I'd like to go back to Maine. Other places I'm returning to are Germany, the Isle , Magazines: "The thing about MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER, more than anything else, is that they have integrity. Everybody says DIRT RIDER is the 'adult magazine,' and it's true. I really relate to MOTORCYCLIST and the humor that's in it. It's also helped me a number of times. The more you ride, the more aware you become. But it can also have an opposite effect, al1d you can get complacent. MOTORCYCLIST keeps me from getting complacent by reminding me of the things I need to remember to do-like practice my front-wheel braking. Reading it, I feel like the editors are buddies and we get to sit down and talk once a month." This endorsement is purely voluntary. No fee or other consideration is paid.
